Its not illegal. your contact has T's & C's. you agree to them. think it through.

You have the right to leave contract without penalty or stay. that way you can take advantage of any special offers out there.

In situations where there is one provider such as Eir, so how does that work?

I received a letter this morning about my contract change.

Moving me to air Talk Off-Peak Mobile 1500 plan and the charge is increasing by €7.

Same as before, no penalty for cancellation if I do not agree to the new contract.

I have my TV, broadband, landline and 2 Mobiles in the bundle.

I cancelled mine yesterday when they advised me my bill would be going up by €7 monthly to €65 monthly for very unstable Fibre and landline.

Working off a dongle and using mobile, so far so good.

Have people been returning routers and hardware?

You have to or they will charge you for it. You should get letter with "how to".

You just call them, commit to another 12 months and they’ll give you cheaper than you are paying, the whole thing is a bit of a swizz.

That was my mindset making the phone call only to be put on hold while the agent's system was " loading up" for over 5 minutes, then to be asked for my details again by the same agent made me think otherwise:-)

Just off the phone with Eir now, called to cancel contract due to price increase.
The agent made an offer of €45 for first 6 month and €76 for the remaining 6 months initially, I rejected this offer.
I have availed of the follow up offer of €40 a month for 12 months.

There some shower to deal with.
Had to ring them about 10 times.
They just wouldn't call back at all.
But got 40 for 12 months also
