Is anyone here doing the Coding short course? I'm just wondering what languages they are going to use.

I signed up for the mailing list on jct but that's it. I'm also interested.

I was involved with the pilot for this and we're now teaching it at Junior Cycle. We start really simple and get them working on https://blockly-games.appspot.com. Then we work with Scratch as it's very visual and a lot of the kids have seen it before, before we move on to JavaScript using Khan Academy. We're also going to use https://processing.org this year but didn't last year. Then in 2nd Year we do html and css. And finally we introduce Python at a very basic level.

How did the kids get on?

Mixed to be honest, some like it and are really good at it and some really don't like it. But to be fair to them they all gave it a go and made some progress. What we'd be hoping to do in the future is get the classes block timetabled and then offer coding or digital literacy.

I think this is the way to go, forcing everyone into coding is a disaster. I was thinking coding for one class against MOS and digital literacy for the remaining three.
How many classes a week are you giving to it?

They get two classes a week in 1st Year and one class in 2nd and 3rd Year, works out at 88 hours over the three years.
