Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Will I keep at it after years of lessons?

    Hello!
    Was an aquaohobe in younger years thanks to no swimming lessons.
    However I've taken over 10 blocks of swim lessons over the past 20 years!
    Plus during these lessons I'll swim regularly however I don't seem to make any progress or swim like a fish like everyone else.
    My hips sink. Can't get breathing correct. Fins are good but I panic with them on especially deep water...
    I love being in the water but have an irrational fear of deep water.
    So if the pool has a deep end I won't swim across it lol!!!
    I don't mind being under water.
    It's all a little confusing and seems bonkers.
    I would love to swim regularly without that panic feeling prior to swim. Then beat myself up as have to stop regularly as can't breath proper and out of breath.
    Should I just give up now? Seems I'm just not made to swim. I envy people who float well and glide effortlessly...when I go into deep water my body just sinks naturally.
    My last instructor said I won't get any better once I get that fear out of my head.
    That's 41 years of fear.. a long time...

    I'm not an instructor but I would recommend using a pull buoy, usually they can be found at the pool or online they cost €10.

    This will correct your body position and maybe you might feel confident enough to swim in the deep end as they will keep you buoyant. Obviously this isn't a longterm solution and you wouldn't want to be using them too often but if they help you build confidence they might be worth a shot. Try them in the shallow end a few times and see if it helps.

    Don't give up though , swimming may save your life some day!!
