Probably a stupid question but any difference If it makes land fall during the night or day time temperature wise

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,324 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

Any chance it misses Florida and builds over the gulf to hit New Orleans?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,485 ✭✭✭harr

Not a bother on him/her kite surfing away, it's alright till he doesn't come back down during a big gust

To late now for that much of a shift it's only 200 miles off the Florida cost now..

Good to wake up this morning to a weaker storm. There is a big difference between 180 mph and 120-130. Miami looks like it will also be spared with it tracking more westerly. It seems the islands that were slammed are slowly falling down the news agenda which is normal. Their recovery will be a long one. My wife's company is relocating families from BVI and we have offered our spare room if needed. Somewhat harrowing listening to discussions of them having to leave family pets behind, which is adding to their trauma.

Good of you both to offer your room. I think everyone is praying it doesn't rebuild and stays where its at currently!

The Coconut grove cam is shakin like mad, has an ominous feel to the scene. Hope all those lovely boats survive :

Storm surge is going to kill a lot of people if they stay in their homes and many are. Pure stupidity.

The eye has just made landfall in northern Cuba in the past 30 mins. The eye seems to have filled in the latest visible imagery. Latest observations show surface winds around 100 kts.

Yep everyone from the NHC to the Meteos expects significant strengthening as it travels from Cuba to the Keys.

Not a plane to be found around Miami, Fort Lauderdale and south Florida in general. Yet Miami is only reporting a wind of 16kts gusting to 26kts.

They really do overkill with the cancellations there! Even the past 2 days when the weather was fine there's been immense amounts of cancellations.

Well in fairness who’s going to be coming into Florida? :)

Downgraded to a cat 3 hurricane. Is it going to stay at this strength or will it strengthen again over open water again when it turns northward as it's expected it will do.

Recent infrared showing that Irma is already beginning to intensify again with more increased cooling of cloudtops.

Storm surge of 10 - 15 ft now expected SW Florida according to latest NHC advisory.

Latest intensity forecast. I think we can now realistically put to bed the idea of a Cat-5 landfall and even a Cat-4 is borderline. All of the models show little or no strengthening from here on in.

I don't see it veering so wildly . I think it keeps tracking west into Gulf of Mekkico like i said
    previously

As usual, completely over hyped! It was never going to be a cat5 in Florida.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,389 ✭✭✭✭Water John

We''ll keep an eye and see are you right, Borne. You're saying it won't turn north?

Storm surge is going to be devastating

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,709 ✭✭✭✭Cantona's Collars

If it stalls a bit over open water between Cuba and Florida it will pick up some power again.Wind speed at about 125 mph with gusts over 155mph currently. Cuba took a bit of the sting out of it but still potential for massive damage in Florida.

Cat 4 or 5, what's the difference in real terms? Like how can it be 'over hyped'? It's not like you will be less dead because it's 'only' a cat 4.
