How Ironic that this picture looks beautiful. I know that is stupid relative to the heartache it might cause and I hope it moves to the least populated area of the world. Good Luck America

I might have put my reply in the wrong place but this picture is actually beautiful compared to the graphs and the ones that look like the tornado is flesh. Good Luck America, I hope it passes you by. In Ireland people are talking about Trump having much more to build than his big mexican wall but this is a very sad alternative.

Slowed to 6mph latest advisory. The slower the speed the longer the winds and storm surge batter the coast.

120mph, 933mb, NW 6mph think the turn has commenced?

Going through eye wall replacement. Direction is NW shifting to North soon so the turn has been made.

Worrying that that link with all the webcams combined is showing all of them out of action

There's a post in the live thread saying it's moving at 6mph now. It's so unintuitive that something so big and powerful can move so slowly.

The weather channel said they're arresting homeless people just to get them of the street.

Wobbling towards Key West more and more.

A day or two ago, it was looking like Key West would be a decent distance west of the eye.

Recon flight has just measured a pressure of 926.1 hPa at 05:42Z. The previous report was 931.1 hPa at 04:11Z.

Max SFMR surface wind of 123 kt in the northeast eyewalls so some rapid deepening has occurred.

    Back to Category 4 unsurprisingly.

    EURO > 48 hours in 6-hour intervals.

Did the EURO forecast this? I know about the cone and that it could have gone anywhere in this, but most of the individual tracks when shown were up the middle or even on the Atlantic coast. Realise it's shifted, but did anyone see it coming before/as people were evacuating to Tampa etc?

Invest in Darwin Awards now. They're going up up up.

Edit: I probably shouldn't have but the meme had to be made.

That sounds significant.. Is that par for the course for this type of hurricane?

I haven't seen people reporting on high tides during surge.. It'll be along the west coast long enough I presume for somewhere to get it at the worst possible time.

Edit: Key West should get hit during low tide thankfully.

The NHC have not mentioned it in their latest update just now. They still have her at 930 hPa.

But they won't be surface winds.

    05:42Z - 926.1 hPa

some pictures from hotels in Cayo Coco, Cuba (where the hurricane passed more or less straight over)
These would be fairly well built structures now, no shacks

I think this one explains "strong wind" fairly well

The eye has been doing an awful lot of wobbling the past couple of hours. It's in a much higher shear environment now.

That's not that shocking, all it is is a few mangled trees up a hilly wooded area, that can happen with any bit of wind.

Compared to some of the awful devastation that we've seen on Barbuda and Saint Martin etc I wouldn't call it heart breaking.
