Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Here is St Marteen as Irma hit the camera died after a few minutes just press play and turn up the sound, apparently the four biggest and strongest buildings on the Island have been destroyed so can you imagine what the Airport will be like, Please God they are all safe.

Amazing footage, looks genuinely scary, as opposed to just daily mail scary.

It's not St Marteen in the 4th photo so there's some hope. Comments further down the page say it is lifted from Mexico 3 years ago: http://www.latimes.com/world/mexico-americas/la-fg-mexico-cabo-storm-20141014-story.html

Sadly this type of disaster pseudo band-wagoning is becoming more common with natural disasters.

Ah great it was a fake :o

Watching the webcam footage from earlier I would still say there's some damage, should see some photos too hopefully as the winds have decreased.

One of my Colleagues here in Russia lives there, he was supposed to fly home yesterday but has extended his rotation by a week as there is no way for him to get home at the moment. His house luckily is fine bar one broken window but many of his friends have lost their houses and have has their business ruined.

It is a terrible event and people have lost lives.

But having seen that video from the airport I actually expected more damage. A lot of smaller structures are still standing.

Not trolling or looking to flame. Just my initial opinion watching the video.

The Dutch defence ministry said: "The picture is of many uprooted trees, houses without roofs and pleasure boats on land."
The Dutch navy has sent two ships from nearby Aruba and Curacao to assist locals but they have had trouble docking, according to media in the Netherlands.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said: "The island is not reachable at this point because of the huge damage to the airport and the harbour."

Normally wouldn't post daily mail links, but the airport has sustained quite a bit of damage, both internally and externally. The roof looks to be in a poor state too.

The airport wont be open until October, the lad in work is trying to get home but no luck getting a boat yet.
