Gift for 18 year old

So a close family member is turning 18 and I'm really stuck on what to get for him. I want to give him an experience of some kind, with mates or something. I get him gig tickets every now and again, he likes going to them but I asked him was anything coming up and the answer was ah no not really. He talked about a 'lads' holiday after his LC next year but don't want to buy him flight vouchers in case this holiday never materialises. I could give him money but lets face it - he'll spend it and I feel it has no thought behind it.

Any 'cool' things that kids go to these days?

Bring him out for a nice steak and a drink after, quality time together, can't beat it!
