Recent email we recieved. Said there was a higher than normal amount of fake notes taken in recently.

We were also told that whoever used the till would have to cover this in the future.

I.e 5 people use the till, fake €50 is taken in. We each now have to pay €10.

Is this legal? Especially seeing as you couls be paying for the mistakes of a another person

Have ye security procedures in place ie those pens, uv lights etc. If not ask for them.
If they are there, use them.

If it is still a problem even using these security services, then refuse to accept 50 euro notes

My understanding is that deductions cannot be made by the employer without your written consent.

A quick call to workplace relations will get a definitive answer.

    Best of luck.

I wouldn't accept a situation like that, especially with shared tills.

From what I can see on the citizens information page it seems it isn't legal, and it's outrageous in my opinion. Perhaps you could contact FLAC (a free legal advice service) and get more technical advice.

Surely iys a black and white issue. Either you are the victim and couldn't tell or the criminal and in on it. . Then it comes down to if something can be done to you not. . I would imagine it do nothing or aren't you for fraud. Nothing in between

Sorry, or the the Work Place Relations Commission as Georgewickstaff said. I've heard they're very good at addressing queries like this. Good luck OP
