Long time follower of this thread and first time poster. I agree with previous posters: these threads will be the subject of academic research in years to come. :-)

Happy out with the acts so far. Massive Attack, Friendly Fires, Garbage and Nina Kraviz are all on my list. Would love to see Nina play in a tent rather than the woods.

Still believe there will be more sub-headliners and mid-tier acts to follow to suit most tastes. Fingers still crossed for The Prodigy!

More likely at the Little Big Tent or Rankins Wood tent.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Listening to Garbage for the first time in about 15 years, they gonna be good.

as long as it doesn't rain, don't want happy Shirley, want pissed off angry Shirley.

Caught Garbage at Brixton about 3 years ago when still living in London. Excellent set, great frontwoman & surprised to see them so low on the bill. Though I reckon they'll be far more prominent on the weekend. Sub-headliners I'd expect.

Here's hoping! I'm listening to her Ballantine's Stay True Scotland set from the Boiler Room at the moment.

I always get the tingles when I hear this, definitely influenced by Floyd's Great Gig in the Sky too, please god I hope its a dry night when they play, last time was after the beautiful electronic and lasertronic Fever Ray and a mad wetting gale like last years Saturday night.

Last time really was horrible. Still it gave our crew the chance to check out The New Pornographers (in Crawdaddy I think), new to me & they were phenomenal. Finished EP 2010 on a real high.

So, is it too early to discuss the meet up that won't happen in anyway what so ever?

I dunno man the rain added something I thought. Maybe it was the drugs but I was towards the back of the crowd and I swear you could see steam rising off of everyone and the lights shining through it looked mad, very atmospheric.

Twas the drugs I reckon. Back of the crowd was only 20 yards from the stage in 2010. Rain so heavy that it looked like only 300/400 people hung on. Felt really sorry for the band. But not sorry enough to get hypothermia.

What was the 2006 Massive Attack gig like, drier circumstances hopefully, one of the EPs I didn't make, I believe they played Sunday night in that one too.

Dull I thought. Zilch interaction and the crowd didn't respond much. Dry night but even drier on stage. They're a superb act, they have the tunes, they reproduce them really well but unfortunately always sound pretty clinical & cold to me. Will definitely check them out again though as I live in hope.

Were you at Fever Ray before the Massive Attack gig in 2010, one of my favourite,'it felt just right' EP moments.

Yeah, loved them & hugely disappointed they're not returning. Only downside was the amount of nattering going on so I went very close to the front where it was much better. Though still not ideal. Too subtle for a festival I think. B&S Friday night could be fab this year but my pockets are empty.

The Knife also great a few years ago, some solace after escaping that souless Arctics performance.

Might Cocktail Cocktail be back this year? We could meet there 30 minutes before Radiohead perhaps?

I've been using these threads the last 5-6 years for rumours and such. Had to finally set up an account and post something. The absolute entertainment I've gotten here has been fantastic. I think someone could do a PhD on EP Post Announcement Syndrome. You have three main categories.

    1. IT'S THE WORST EVER (Aka All Caps Alan). Primary argument posits that the music announced is for babies or worse WOMEN who use tan. Because as we all know, using fake tan and liking chart music makes you inherently inferior.

    2. Defensive Derek. Derek argues that actually this is perfect, and if you had a more discerning palate then you'd appreciate it. Secretly worried that All Caps Alan might be right but needs to justify his expenditure.

    3. Neutral Nancy. Could be better, could be worse. Likes some music listed, not others. Nancy doesn't like confrontation and keeps their love of Radio Friendly Band under wraps for fear of social isolation.

In fairness there's no right or wrong way to react. Obviously you are equally entitled to be delighted or disgusted and ultimately your wallet will decide if any music festival will continue to be successful. But I will say that the Irish tendency has been overwhelmingly negative for years. Or the negative has just been more vocal. I think there is no collection of acts that will 'work'. Since 2014 in particular each year has failed some section of music junkies. It's either the horror of seeing Lana Del Rey in the lineup, the disgust at no rock band, too much rap etc.

For my money I've been happy every time I've been and while I have my preferences I've always had way too many acts to fit them all in!

GET OUT. WE DONT LIKE THIS LOGICAL, COMMON SENSE APPROACH TO EP DISCUSSION!!!!

Well I'm sure the organisers are thrilled the tickets went on sale before the announcement and that there is sadly a ready supply of morons who think music must be made with six writers, five producers and lots of software.

I was back to the left of the sound stage, fair bit more than 400. One of the special so moments

Are we really back to this? Again? F*cking hell.

    All together now:

JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING DOESN'T MEAN IT'S BAD.

    Clear?

There is a lot at EP that interests me, a lot that doesn't. I'm not going this year and the line-up is only part of the reason for that but if someone handed me a ticket in the morning, I'd still have a cracking weekend.

But music changes. Look at festival line-ups EVERYWHERE. Sure, you've a few like Wertcher, Mad Cool, etc that are leaning heavily on the rock side of things but many of the biggest festivals in the world are falling over themselves to get Kendrick Lamar, NERD and others because that is what is popular and interesting to a lot of people right now.

Nobody is forcing anyone to go to Picnic but it's not like you don't have options.

And, finally, if your favourite band is playing most other places and not Ireland, maybe, just maybe, the fault is with the band and not the festival organisers who operate in all of these countries?

Don't worry, the meltdown will stop when Picnic announces their ace in the hole, Ed Sheeran b2b set with Taylor Swift! Everyone will be satisfied then

almost none of the lineup fits this category.

the majority of the lineup is guitar-based/alternative bands that write their own songs exclusively.

I do wonder if people who trot out this kind of stuff have actually listened to any of the acts outside the first few names on the poster.....
