is this the start of a change or just the passing of the ball to the next political tool/

fair play to her for holding on there that long she must have balls or pure brass given how an times she was caught in dodgy dealings

    Another one bites the dust.

Hopefully the next one will take stock of the shambles the force is in and try to turn it around.

Immediately? Some choice of words. Like.. just after her holiday after months of scrutiny. Sounds more like eventually conceeded.

    She's retiring,not resigning

    Resigning/Retiring with immediate effect!!!

Sounds like went before she was pushed.

Firing is usually with immediate effect- retiring is usually planned not immediate. But sure Noirin likes lying to us so why not continue to do so?!

    Will this trigger an election?

I don't know was it brass balls of just a good old fashioned neck like a jockeys bollox.
Either way she should have been gone long ago.
It'll be interesting to see what Leo and the rest who kept backing her have to say.

The next Comissioner needs to come from outside the Gardaí. Anything else is a waste of time.

Either RTE can move very fast or they had her professional obituary already made for the news

Walking before she's pushed, I'd imagine. Probably with a nice big golden handshake, to boot.

So another member of the incompetent pally clique of yes men will replace her until the next scandal bursts or there will be root and branch reform elimination of ad hoc management practices and greater civilian oversight and modernization of the force? We deserve a force fit to fight crime in the 21st century whether it's organized crime subversives terrorism or getting on top of out of control feral teenagers terrorising working class areas.

We should abolish An Garda Siochana altogether.

    It's well passed it's sell-by date.....not fit for purpose.

    Vile woman.

She made sure she got her 3 years as commissioner so she could retire on the commissioner pension.

What a rotten vile human being. No doubt she will be replaced with someone of a similar ilk.

    Good riddance.

There needs to be a radical overhaul of the organisation now.

She obviously has dirt on the government, possibly turning a blind eye to the odd murder something along those lines.

    It's the only possible explanation.

She knows who meets in hooded robes to sacrifice virgins at the Hellfire Club?

Mod- Threads merged. Also no personal abuse of Noirin is allowed. Discuss her job no problem.

+1. The organisation is too seperate from the public. It's run like an old boys club.

I hoe this puts an end to the clamour for gender equality in the top jobs here.
We need the best whether that's a man or woman it doesn't matter as long as they are the best fit

Mob rule, judging by this thread.

I assumed you would have to give your employer more than a few hours notice you are retired!

She was in line for a lump sum of €300K if she was still in the job in November.
If it was just about the money I reckon she'd have hung on and brazened it out.
So the question is - did she jump, or was she pushed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,020 ✭✭✭✭Spanish Eyes

E300k tax free lump sum and and a pension of E100k

Sure who wouldn't resign under those conditions!

Walk away and a two finger gesture to all of us.
