Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mourinho’s side kick off their European campaign at home to Basel, who won their eighth consecutive Swiss Super League title last season.

Basel helped knock Man United out of the Champions League group stage in 2011 with a 3-3 draw at Old Trafford and a 2-1 win in Switzerland.

Ashley Young is in contention to return for Manchester United for the first time since May in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Young arrived at the Lowry Hotel with the United squad on Monday night ahead of the game against Basel, four months after he suffered a groin injury against Celta Vigo in the Europa League semi-final second leg, report the Manchester Evening News.

Luke Shaw trained with the United first-team on Monday afternoon but was not among the squad which checked in at their pre-match base.

The weather could be a big factor with strong winds and heavy rain forecast to arrive before kick off.

Hoping Lindelof impresses. Seemed to play well over the international break when on duty for Sweden from what I've read/seen.

    United 2-0.

Could be quite challenging weather conditions for the match, not expecting a pretty game, going with 1-0.

I hope that xhaka plays like his brother....

Ahh that warm feeling of a champions league thread. Just fits like a glove.

Need to get back on the horse good and quickly here. Would be amazing if we could get this group wrapped up early and be able to concentrate on the city and arsenal (iirc) games either side of a later cl group fixture. I doubt it will be that straightforward though. A win tonight would go a long way.

Would have liked to have seen Smalling and lindelof get some game time in the build up to this knowing we had to play both. Also agree that Mata should start as we looked much better in attack and defense with that line up than with Herrera last week.

Just have mkhitartan back in middle should be enough and use martial and Rashford on the wings.

Man Utd 9 or 10 behind the ball. Fellaini to come on and win the game

Has to be better then keeping nine men in front of the ball and getting hammered 5-0.

It took 12 posts before someone came in with Liverpool/United drivel. Pleasantly surprisingly it took that long actually. Must be a combination of last week's results and the current table.

1-1. Basel have always been a real nuisance for English clubs.

You were the first to mention Liverpool and I'm not sure why.

Big test for Lindelof good to have Fellaini back on the bench hoping he gets a run out at some stage, hope Martial and Lukaku link up nicely too, should be able to do them by about 2 maybe 3 keeping a clean sheet very important tonight.

Young at rb is something to look at. If he can do a valencia job but be able to whip a ball in, he could be dangerous

Don't think I've watched a United game this season where a team hasn't set up this way. It's a valid tactic, but **** me is it like groundhog day watching our games.
