RDF Application, no way to stand out?

So I applied for the RDF when the applications were open in early September. My skills would be around IT and comms so the CIS Corps would be an obvious fit for me. However there was no way to highlight this. I'm in Dublin city, any suggestions to boost the odds or is it just pot luck really?
