Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah hopefully but I’d imagine that you and I could be in the same batch if them dates match like that haha

Hi I have done interview but just checked my gvb and i see an update on it saying download expired a disclosre was done on the 24th april?

Have you been assigned to the Guards?

As far as I’m aware, normal vetting takes maybe a week and that is this part where you get “disclosure viewed “. This is sufficient for anyone assigned to other areas of public service .

But if it’s the Guards there is two more strands to go. So basically that disclosure viewed is only a part of an “intensive” vetting .

I’m on my final strand now but have been waiting almost 16 weeks . Unfortunately it seems kind of the norm.

Yeah mine has expired . I think that’s the same for everyone. It’s just the general vetting .

Emailed PAS a week ago about any information, and I emailed again yesterday and they still haven’t replied.

I’m lucky that I’m already in employment and I’m thankful for that. But I have been ignoring other potential jobs for the last 4 months . Please hurry up 🌹

Okay so I’ve been updated that 2 strands have been returned, any idea how long strand 3 can take?

I got that update at end of April.... and at end of May. Both times they said they expected it to be completed shortly, so I’m assuming the 3rd strand in theory, is probably the shortest one ?

But I don’t think anyone really seems to know.

However I’ve read a lot of people seem to be at this stage, so it might a case that a lot of people will be approved in around the same time as one another .

    But it’s all guesswork.

I’m going to accept probably not starting until the start of October (if my clearance comes through that is) . I don’t think the Guard HR ever seems to be in a particular rush

What does strand 2 involve? Do they require further information from you? I'm still waiting on the first one to be completed.

    No idea!

I think the first strand (the quickest) is just a scan of your record and basic information.

But you don't need to provide anything more! :)

Did you get an email to say strand 2 is complete nihiyminoy?

No, I rang PAS to see what the story was and they told me to email them so I did and surprisingly they didn’t return the usual template that they send. They told me that they have returns on 2 strands so I’m on strand 3, 4+ weeks ago I was only on strand 2 so it’s definitely something anyway I guess, how about you?

20 weeks now. I expected it to be long but like 5 months? i haven't lived abroad or any other address!

I'd really love to know what causes these delays. atleast 8 weeks waiting on the 3rd strand to complete.

Yeah the waiting times are ridiculous, exact same as myself. This week will mark week 12 since I started the AGS vetting. I guess the impatience is worse when your current job is really bad too haha

    Good news...

I emailed them again on Tuesday (have been so impatient because my plan was to find a new job months ago, as my work is quite stressful and i work long hours) . So they emailed this morning to say it had been completed ! Such a relief. Waiting for PAS to contact me now.

I knew there would be no problem with the vetting, but you always have your doubts, because you don't know specifically what they check. And because it was going on so long.

So let's hope it's not another 20 weeks until i start (although i'm preparing myself for that!)

Hopefully not much longer for the rest of you guys. Sending you all my positivity !

Great news, at least now there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I got a message on public jobs with the department i was assigned and the HR contacted me about 2 days later.

    Hi there,

Really good information here. Thanks. I too am awaiting to be assigned to AGS.

Much like a lot of people here I am awaiting the vetting process to be completed. The 1st step of the vetting was disclosed on 24th April and a reply email on 27th May from AGS HR told me that strand 3 could ”take some time."

Has any one started that was vetted at the same time as me?
Kinda losing hope here but I can see from previous posts that it's a lengthy process!

    Thank you.

The only advice I can can give you is to prepare for a long wait . Don’t expect it quickly but honestly you never know. People who started their application later than me got their vetting back before me .

I was the same , you just think it’s never going to happen. But across every competition when it comes to Garda vetting, everyone is experiencing the same problems.

I would say it’s no harm to check in with the HR office every 4/5 weeks . I reckon you should mentally prepare to be waiting until the end of August / Septemeber. But you could get a surprise

20 weeks is not uncommon according to the EO thread. That said I think there is some shenanigans going on with them, there doesn't seem to be an urgent need for them. CO's on the other hand and always in demand especially to back fill CO's promoted to EO.

If you plan on 20 weeks from 24th April you hopefully won't be disappointed.

Thanks very much. Lots of helpful info. I'm hoping for a surprise 😀 but I think you're right in mentally preparing for September.
And sure no harm getting back in touch with HR for an update.

    Thanks again.

Took me 20 weeks . After that, once PAS contacted me , everything happened quite quickly and I got assigned / starting date.

I don’t know if you need to give notice to an employer but I had to give one month so that’s why I haven’t started yet.

Hold on anyway . But also no harm to contact the HR for an update

Is the starting date far out? I do have too but only a week, I’m just finding it hard to hang on as my current job is absolutely dreadful so I need to go haha, oh believe me I do, I frequently email and ring Garda HR but I’m not pointing the finger at anybody, I just want it to happen is all haha

I’m starting in 2 weeks. I probably could have been started already if it was not for my notice period.

It’s really frustrating I know but I think sometime in September to start would not be unrealistic

That’s brilliant, yeah I get you so in my circumstances it should be even quicker given my short notice period. Oh it really is when you want it so bad, here’s to hoping but if week 20 passes without a word then I just have to try something else.

Hi there, great info on this thread for keeping up to date with things. I’m a new user here but just made an account to interact for once. I was taken on by the Garda after interview in March and now await the vetting process to be finalised. Think I’m in the same boat as others. It’s killing me waiting this long.

Also done my interview in March so you’re definitely in my batch I’d reckon, absolutely, March feels like forever ago at this stage, just keep hounding the HR otherwise we’re not going to get anywhere.

No I didn’t mean have to be done again, I meant as in again they establish a new practice of the way vetting is undertaken and completed, we will already have had our vetting completed as we’re long enough into it at this stage but for future applicants I sincerely hope that things change as the way vetting is done now is simply just not good enough.

I emailed Garda HR on Wednesday evening and they responded first thing Thursday morning and told me I should expect to hear from them in the next few weeks. Do they just say this to everyone or are we actually finally going to be appointed?
Also, it’s probably been asked before and I assume it is... but Garda clerical officer is Monday-Friday right?

Yeah they just send the same copy and paste template to everybody for the most part and if you further query them via email they simply will not entertain you haha. On the hand other I must say that anytime I have called the Garda HR, the person on the other side has been very informative and didn’t go behind the curtain at all about where I was at and what was next and what not so you may be better off giving them a call. Yes it is indeed Monday to Friday.

Some are on flexi some are on fixed shifts. Very occationally you might get asked to come in to do overtime depending on where you are and if they have something on.

Do you have to take a 36min lunch if you must do a 7hr 24m shift? - can you start at 9.10am - finish at 4.50p and take a 15m - 20m lunch? .. then do one long day once a week say 9 to 7?

Yes, you will be allocated a 30 minute lunch no matter. I am not sure he won't works across all departments but where I've worked you can work short days if you want, just as long as your clock balances as required at the end of the month so you can I've been able to work from 10-4 if I wanted.

So while we are on Flexi time question, how is your total calculated?

The info mentioned 43hr 15min of attendance a week which is inclusive of breaks so its 6.25 for lunch and 37 for work.

So do I have to take a hour and 15 minutes of lunch a day and do my number at the end of the week have to sequel 43h 15m no matter what?

Thats a lot of time on lunch per day. I would rather have a 45 minute lunch and leave 30 mins earlier or arrive 30 mins later.

Don't worry too much a out the 43hr 15 mins. Basically you'll work 7.24 per day (excluding lunch). So 7:54 per day with lunch. No matter what you do for lunch a minimum of 30 minutes will be taken off. Obviously if you got on lunch for longer the tine will be taken off.

Then you also get an additional break which is included in the 43hr 15 mins. Normally it's either a break in the morning or the time is split and given as a one break in the morning and one in the afternoon.

If you are on flexi you'll never be asked to take an hour and 15 for lunch.

Sorry if I am just not making sense of it ... on flexi time - can i come in at 9.10 every day and leave 8 hours later and that is my time fulfilled? As my 30m lunch break is standard... the of course work longer if possible to work up the additional time per period to get a day off in the 4 week period?

Or will you need to work 9 to 530 every day - 8 hour work plus 30m lunch ?

The first example is correct. If you start at 9:10 and take the minimum 30 minute lunch then you can leave at 5:10 for a full days work. Technically you can leave at 5:04 as the working hours are 7hr 54 minutes when the 30 minute break is taken.

Anything worked over that goes towards your flexi time. So if you started at 9:10 and worked until 6pm youd have 56 minutes of flexi worked up.
