I have always bought the 15+ Manuka honey from Lidl in NI.

For about 5 years it was always £4.99, it moved to £6.49 the other day.

    Thats a shocking increase.

You only seeing it on honey or anything else?
If its just the honey it could be in response to the honey shortage as the hives didn't well the last year iirc.

Climate change and pesticides make it harder for the beekeeper.

You pay more for your honey.

Genuine Manuka honey is sourced in New Zealand, I know from contacts that recent earthquake damage to the highways and rail freight in the South Island have added considerably to the logistics costs of producers of lamb, wine, manuka etc. Its a high percentage rise but not unreasonable in the circumstances.

Could the sterling taking a dive be involved?

All honey has gone up. Local honey is between 11 and 15 for a 250ml jar now.
There is only so much Manuka Honey produced in NZ and the price will reflect that.

    I don't think so, why would I?

No shock here anyway, if the thread title has said "Shocking price rise of manuka honey in Lidl" I would not even have clicked on it.

You do not even mention jar size, for all I know this is yet another more suited to the bargain alerts forum.

I remember in the "rip off ireland forum" someone highlighting the fact tesco increased the price of 10 donuts from €1.50 to a still amazingly low €1.75, no messing! at least you did not resort to calculating the % increase, which many posters reckon appears even more impressive.

In holland & barrett the cheapest 15+ honey is €31.25 for 250g.

Morrisons Uk are £19.87 for 250g 15+, £19.90 in tesco uk for the same.

So seems another case of not knowing how good you had it, and how good you still do have it, that is the only shocking thing here. -another one for bargain alerts...

    ......

Nah, Its not just honey by any means.

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago

Latest increase that I noticed was G/F loaf up from 1.69 to 1.99

Also lots of low end staples discontinued. The latest that I noticed only today was sultanas. Manager said they will only stock them as a special - probably in the runup to Chris-sssshhh.

Seems to me that in their rush to remodel their offering to compete with Supervalu the plot has been totally lost.

Whether or not it is still cheapest Manuka 15+ you can buy, its still a shocking price increase.
    Nearly 30% overnight.

No......its really not, and you're still choosing to ignore the logical reasons behind the increase and ignore the fact it's still the cheapest around by a significant margin

I expect you'd be equally outraged with 3 x 50p increases over a period of 3 months. So the overnight comment holds no water.

European honey blend for me! I don't think Lidl one was true Manuku honey anyway

It has to be - otherwise it can't be called Manuka honey.

But as with all foodstuffs there are different qualities.

As for price - honey is a traded product and price will move in line with supply and demand.

Price difference is too much for it to be the real deal imo

Its been stocked for over 4 years in both Aldi and Lidl, surely one sensationalist journalist would have done an expose on it at this stage.?

The Aldi manuka honey (award winning) comes from Mileeven foods in Kilkenny who have a excellent reputation.

The same way horse found its way onto Beef burgers?

If its produced outside the EU there is even less checks.

Its a 100% pure product - very simple testing can be done

There's a world of difference in how cheap burgers are produced and pure honey supplied by a very reputable and award winning family company.

But sure there's still some people who can't accept that Aldi and Lidl products are as good as any overpriced branded products.
