Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Armaghlad - just a bit of info for you.

An Ghaeltacht were playing in Division 3 in the county league in 2015. The managed to get promoted via a play-off after winning the last 4 games in the league to finish joint 3rd. In fact in 2014, it looked like they could get relegated to Div 4 but pulled a few results out in the last two rounds.

They went on and won Div 2 in 2016. Last October they were beaten in the Intermediate semi final by Templenoe who won the Junior AI the February before. An Ghaeltacht have had a great year in 2017. Their major advantage is that they didn't have any Kerry minors or seniors this year and none of their main lads went to America so they had a full hand to play with all year in all league games.

Not sure what your problem is TBH.

Great win for An Ghaeltacht against Dingle in West Kerry championship final yesterday.

So do the leagues mean anything in Kerry or not?

When and where is Gaeltacht v Moy set to take place?

I'm sure they do but they have no bearing on championship.

In Clare we have 7 divisions (I'm fairly sure it's 7 anyway). A team starting out in Division 7 and playing Junior B championship football could be playing division 1 football in 6 years if they kept getting promoted. However, unless they win the junior B championship they won't go up the grades for championship and will stay in junior B no matter what division they are in for the league - totally separate. This is the way it is in most counties to be honest.

I know - it was like this in Armagh up until a few years ago... we had Division 2 teams playing Junior and Division 3 teams playing senior so the leagues and championships were aligned. I think it’s a much fairer set up - it makes the league more competitive with the added incentive of playing at a higher grade if promoted and makes senior football a realistic aspiration for a lot more clubs.

I saw highlights of that Templenoe All-Ireland final on youtube. They were some Junior team!

Also well up in the league divisions now...
Played An Ghaeltacht in the Intermediate final and took them to a point.
In all fairness, they have a great team at the moment, but it's a genuinely small club.

Mean anything? Well they have been somewhat diluted in the last few years - before it was common for the county players to be available for 4 rounds of the 11 round league - now clubs are lucky to have them once.

Senior Grade has 8 clubs. Intermediate has 16. Junior Premier has 16. Junior has 32-36 depending on teams pulling out etc. To move up a grade, you have to win the championship you are in. From Intermediate and Junior Premier, the team demoted is the lowest positioned in the county league of those teams beaten in the 1st round.

It has happened before than you have Junior Premier teams play in Division 1. Glenbeigh for example were there for a couple of years before they won the (now) Junior Premier championship. There have been other teams who reach Division 1 and cant even win the (now) Junior Premier championship.

I could try explain the County Senior Championship to you but I need to find my abacus first.

Ardmore of Waterford playing a Setanta a senior Donegal hurling team in the All Ireland junior Club Hurling semi final. Any chance of a shock, Waterford clubs have a bad enough record against Ulster clubs ???

Galways Sylane playing St Mogues Fethard of Wexford in the other semi

I have seen one or two Kerry intermediate teams play in Munster and they would beat alot of county teams.

That was fantastic match to watch as a neutral. Some comeback by Newbridge but whoever kicked the ball away for the last free to be brought up will remember it for a long long time. Great to see two teams just go at it hammer and tongs. Defence was pretty good on both sides, except for occasional head staggers, but great pace for time of year and wet pitch.

Definitely. Between the kickouts and the free been brought forward at the end was just crazy. Sweeney got 2 soft frees against and still Lomans couldn't close out game. Sweeney and O'Connor were immense for Moorefield.

Nothing to do with the county board, it was a South Board competition and yes the South Board are, always have been and always will be a complete laughing stock

Knocknagree, a tiny club from a tiny village on the Cork side of the Cork/Kerry border made it to Croke Park today. A 2-9 to 7 point victory in the junior all Ireland semi.

John Fintan Daly is over them so management are highly experienced

Fantastic achievement for this small club. John Fintan Daly certainly is a great coach and highly experienced.

Yes. Fully agree with both. I'm from Gneeveguilla so went to school with and played against all the lads. Played on the same soccer team as a few so absolutely delighted for them. Living in Meath now so no excuse for me to not make the final.

    they'll face Multyfarnham from Westmeath
who were probably one of the weakest clubs in the county for decades and hadn't won anything since 1957
won the county final replay despite being outsider in both games
and now have got all the way to Croke Park
amazing what a bit of confidence does really

An Gealtacht (Kerry) and Moy (Tyrone) are currently 0-2 a piece at HT in the All Ireland Intermediate Football SF.

The play acting by some of the Ghaeltacht players is awful to watch

Eanna O Connor. Didn't see why. No replay of any incident.

Gaeltacht were awful. It was like they didn't want to attack, every pass backwards and sideways. Ended up beating themselves.

  • Registered Users Posts: 294 ✭✭TrueGael

No offence but Moy are the most negative team I have ever seen, how many times did they kick the ball in the 67 minutes?

They had had an extra man for over 20 minutes a gale force wind and still had only 20% of the ball and when they finally kick the ball, heaven forbid they get a goal out of it

Hope for the sake of the sport they get beaten in the final, they reduced that game to a total farce

Best of luck to Multyfarnham and Dr Michael Glaveys today

Knocknagree very impressive first half. Got off to a quick start kicking 2 points before Multyfarnham even got out of their half. Think it went to 4 points to 2 then before Knocknagree scored 2 goals in a minute. Knocknagree goalkeeper made 2 fantastic saves to keep them in it.

If they just keep ticking over in 2nd half should be a win for them. Multyfarnham very wasteful in front of goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,535 ✭✭✭dobman88

Also a very nice crowd here for it given the size of the two villages. Few more arriving now ahead of the hurling final at 4

Very enjoyable game to watch too. Knocknagree with alot of nice kick passing, someting you dont see too often now

Multyfarnham a credit to themselves. Never gave up and kept running at Knocknagree but just didn't get their reward in time to make a proper comeback.

Days like today will probably never be seen again in our little parish at home. I'm delighted for the Knocknagree lads. Not every day you get to support friends and school mates in croke park.

Knocknagree have nothing won until 2 years ago winning duhallow after 25 years and now All Ireland champs. Some going

The John Fintan Daly effect. He won the intermediate with Kerry side Miltown/Castlemaine also a few years ago. He just seems to have a way of doing these things that his teams buy into. Some going is right
