It's that time of year when we can stop complaining about how shít the weather is and just accept that we live on a rain sodden, windswept rock in the Atlantic.

Deep blues, moody black, long scarves, candle light, walks in the dark, open fire, soft blankets, wooly socks up to my knees, exhilarating rain, bracing wind, spooky frights, warm soup, hot chocolate.

    I love winter :)

Warm coats. Pretty hats. Wooly tights and boots. New dresses. Fires. Watching movies when the rain is banging off the windows. Hot chocolate. Snowmen. Christmas. Gloves and sparkly scarves.

The rare occasions it snows heavily

Join a gym then or it is possible to exercise in the morning/evening in the dark and avoid getting wet.
I can't even type the word you called Christmas.

The Northern Lights. This is a screengrab I got last night from a Churchill, Manitoba webcam, no alteration. I know it's autumn though but winter gives longer nights to enjoy the spectacle.

EDIT: The screengrab is just to show what you could go and see in person, it seems to have confused the OP. You can go and see Northern Lights but even looking at them on the webcam was pretty cool.

No, going on a holiday to see them obviously. Use your head. That is something that winter is good for. But even looking at them on the computer was pretty amazing.

    Much, much better sleep
Beers can go outside if the fridge is full
    Ocassional snow (2010/11 was wonderful)
No disappointment with lack of decent summer weather
No "I should have worn a jacket" moments when it rains
Stew and other such hearty foods
When a session goes on till 5/6am it doesnt get bright
    No flies/midges
Don't have to water outdoor plants
    Crisp sunny frosty days
Veg/Fruit last longer e.g., tomatoes which shouldn't be refrigerated
    Fires, Brandy, Whiskey

Although the noticeable change after the winter solstice is welcome. If January could be removed and snow/ice more frequent it would be a lot better.

    thats war

Classic song, nobody will deny that. But winter is all about making money, think about it. We spend more money in winter, therefore we need to earn more. Anyone who's self employed should get me.

Running outside in the winter is amazing.

There's more great things. Christmas races. The jingle bells 5k where you're guaranteed a PB and you get to wear a jingly bell!

Brilliant time of year. You get to hoard lots of tinned food and live in your bed for a solid 3 months. You hear distant Christmas music from your cubby hole while in a catatonic state, and should the postman knock too loud you leap upon him and tear him to shreds with your overly long fingernails.

Come the end of Winter you emerge a lean, keen, mating machine.

A roaring fire. That's what it's good for.

    slush?
    ...
I like warm food but then there also lots of chocolate around to tempt me.

I much prefer cycling in winter than summer. You warm up quickly and then it is so refreshing as opposed to really sweaty in the summer.
