How long is it taking to get here from china?

On the quality. 8 quid was always going to be a gamble. Just hope no one reverses into me in the dark! Or use it like a dummy dashcam.

IWould this even be admissible though - if you can't make out the number plate?

The resolution of the image is 640x480 which actually is VGA

So it ain’t HD and it ain’t 170 degree angle, false and misleading advertising - whether it cost 7 or 70 euro

Couldn't find it on the site, but have details in the confirmation email

2.4 Inch 1080P Full HD 140 Degree Wide Angle Car DVR with Night Vision

Could put it down to experience but coupled with the unrelenting emails it would make you feel like chasing a refund, just to show them that they can't get away with it without at least some hassle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 446 ✭✭duckmusic

The SD card I have in it doesn't work with it (its 64gb and the manual says it only takes up to 32gb). I was going to try buy a new SD card today, but now I think it would be better to not bother! The video in the screenshots looks awful and the SD card will cost me more than the DashCam did!

First and last time to buy anything from them, life's too short to be chasing these clowns for a poxy refund.

Why? legit complaint, item not as described would seem very strange if PayPal didn't rule in your favour.

And before the oh it's 7 quid brigade chime in, its irrelevant how much it cost.

How do you complain to tomtop for refund couldn't find anything on mobile...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 215 ✭✭Mike1961

Ordered mine on 20th Sept ... didn't ship till 3rd October. I know I'll get it eventually :)

Item described as ... 2.4 Inch 140 Degree Wide Angle Car DVR with Night Vision .. High Resolution Definition Video Car Vehicle with 32GB TF Card Digital Camcorder.

Not sure if I'd have a strong enough case for a Paypal dispute.

Actually that description is what's currently showing on the website. My Paypal email has it as ... 2.4 inch 1080P Full HD 140 degree wide angle Car DVR with Night Vision. Quite a difference..

Some were described as yours and others as 170 degree wide angle HD camera

No, we wanted to avail of an offer for 170° Full HD Nightvision. The price is irrelevant. The items delivered thus far are not as described.

The '170 angle' has to refer to the rotation on the holder. The lens is probably 45 at best. Cheap sh1t!

I probably won't open a dispute, but screw ever buying anything from Tomtop again!

Based on the above images, it's better than no camera. My daily driver has an expensive camera for the front. I've nothing the rear of the car. This will work perfectly for the back of the car, as I've currently nothing in it!

I do suspect that they will stop working in a few weeks though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,974 ✭✭✭long_b

Fair play to whoever got it going.
There seems to be a 1080lp option in the menus but it appears to already be selected.

The manual mentions other resolutions (VGA etc)

I probably reading too much into this :)

    Think this is it

Look it's not great but for a few euros it's not a complete piece of rubbish either. It would prove who is right or wrong in an accident situation, isn't that their function?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭brightkane

It may ght not get a reg in a hit and run but Wil prove lane changing accidents. Roundabout. Or some cock reversing into you on purpose.

Alpha you would want to get a cork for that flatulence mate!

So with the settings set at 1080p, this is what I am getting out on the video:

    Video: MJPG 640x480 30fps 3396kbps [V: mjpeg, yuvj422p, 640x480, 3396 kb/s]

Well, if you add 640 and 480 together they come to 1120, so maybe they're giving more than they promised :P:P:P

You could try leaving a review on TrustPilot. They seem to answer reviews there.

I did and told them it was false advertising and refused .I really couldn't care less about money and didn't expect much from this but they are taking the Mick with this and the way they are dealing with it

Assuming you've activated pay Pals free return post option you can return something paid for by pay pal to anywhere in the world and pay pal will refund you the postage cost upto 30 euro.

Though in fairness in this situation you shouldn't have to, pay pal will probably eventualy just ask you to destroy it and refund you then.

I look forward to receiving mine then :/.

No, the price is key. If it looks too good to be true, 99.9% of the time it is.

170° Full HD Night vision dash cam - 7euro

You had to have thought something strange was up?

3 days ago I bought a set of 6 screwdrivers on Dealz for 1.50. How does that make sense but this BA doesn't?

Nonsense post, this is bargain alerts. Why think something strange was up? There was Nikon cameras going on BA recently for less than half the RRP, this was true and no problems for those lucky enough to get one.

1/2 price I understand. A cam with those specs should be 30-40euro. Anyway, you guys know best

I sent two emails about the change in the description, after a week I had to send another email as I did not get a reply the first time. this is what they sent me today:

    Dear customer,

    Thanks for your mail.
This is our product editor's fault, this product is 140 degree camera, we are really sorry, if you are willing to leave the product, we are willing to give you 300 points for compensation.

    Have a nice day!
    Best Regards
    Yvonne

I'd two ordered, one arrived, the other has been processing for three weeks. One PayPal Case later & it's now cancelled. Fook that, I know you can't complain for €7 but they're useless & don't reflect what was advertised.
