For those of us that sell online, do you see much of an increase in sales around black Friday/cyber Monday.
This will be my first year actively pushing sales at this time of year and just was wondering how popular it is in Ireland.

    Great question,

it would be really interesting to hear (even broadly) what discounts e-commerce retailers offered, what effect it had on turnover and whether they plan to do it again.

    What do you sell?

A niche of toys & learning equipment.

HUGE if you are in the popular consumer goods business. We've been planning BF since last February.
All staff leave cancelled, staff in from 6am, some staff staying til late the previous night for prep. - We expect 2 weeks turnover in 12 hours and strangely it has little effect on the following day's turnover, but does affect turnover the preceding few days

For a niche area - probably less important and to give the discounts some consumer expect/demand, you need your suppliers on board.

Cyber Monday is dead as a phrase, but many do a Black Friday weekend which continues til Monday

Last year we did nothing in terms of promotion on Black Friday but noticed a decent spike in sales. It gets people in the mood to buy. Its worth capitalising on

Just to follow up, we ran a promotion for black Friday and the week proceeding it, (had to because 2 competitors started early to) we are still running the promo and we are just shy of a regular months revenue for the past 8 days.

    Edit

First few days were specials on items we had large numbers of and we're struggling to shift, this was moderately successful.

Our main promo started off on Thursday and this is where we saw the big increase.
