Paving slabs on clay soil

    Hi,

We're trying to pave a section of our garden. We have 400x400 slabs, which we're trying to place on paving sand on top of the soil. The problem is that this is clay soil, which appears to be in a permanent state of mud. The slabs are never even and the soil keeps sinking and moving.

Is there a way to rectify it (preferably without paying a fortune to get it done professionally)?

    Thanks,

    M.

Sounds like you need some drainage channels criss-crossing the site, then hardcore underneath the paving sand
