Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

...or cuewho, or queuewhew...or whatever is the word for the whooping noise Irish people know and (some) make, but can't recall ever seeing written down.

    Thanks.

    Wut?

The only similar thing I know would be yoohoo

    Woohoo?

No, it definitely starts with a consonant, k, q or a hard c.

Is it a country thing, like whisht?

Or that yodel or click type thing some do. For example a line such as: The foreign girl eating oranges would go like, the forten girtle eating ortenjez.

In what context is the sound used?

Like a whoop or a holler.

Like, someone sings a rousing song in a pub and at the end people go "quewho". Not "woohoo".

I think you're hearing people shouting 'Cute hoor'.

I know what you mean - it's that kind of yodelly version of a whistle to get someones attention, popular among a type of tracksuited young scrote who might be found hanging around a council estate, usually up to mischief it should be noted, the loveable little rascals.

I've heard the creatures call many times.

In which case I say it's a noise - you can't spell a noise, you can only spell the word that describes it. What that word is - I haven't a notion!

I know what noise you're talking about but there's no specific word for it. You'd just say whoop if you were writing I guess.

I have no idea what this noise is supposed to be. I'm guessing its not a Dublin thing.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I have no idea what this is about... must be a country thing.

Hope it doesn't catch on though... that "happy out" expression is bad enough!

Haven't a clue how to spell it. It's like asking how to spell the typical sound a 'mouth fart' makes.

/drops monocle into brandy at the very thought of someone from the civilised city doing such a thing. :pac:

Never heard it myself either. I've heard a lot of 'woohs' at the end of trad performances but that's it.

Maybe it's a sound only audible to country folk.

I think it's meant to be that sound that means 'yeah, right' that a lot of people make. With a breathe out sound at the end.

Doesn't really tie into the "whooping" noise the op describes though.
