They were far from pointless. They were essential. It was all about the fact that Sandler's character had broken the cycle rather than continue it (as so many people do) as despite having a father who never supported anything he did, and in fact critiqued him and controlled him at ever turn as he grew up, he however had raised a daughter who loved him and felt she could be whoever she wanted to be in front of him and never feel that he would judge her.

I agree with your summary about the daughter, but the idea of the father accepting without problem the nature of her student films could have easily been demonstrated in a more tasteful way on behalf of the film's director. I am by no means a prude, but for some reason her nudity in that film felt cheap and exploitative, and I can't remember thinking that about a nude scene in recent memory.

Well, tbf, you were supposed to feel that it was cheap, given it's a student film. Exploitative though, not sure why you'd feel that way about it given it's grainy footage with almost no close ups. Anyway, here's Grace in a Q&A (from around 4mins 10s in) commenting on the scene briefly.

Yeah she was a stunning looking woman. Intelligent too. The brains, beauty, talent and an actual personality is a "thing" with French actresses and the culture in general. Not the usual over primped vacuous dolly birds parading their "beach ready curves" to the paid photographer on a tacky break in the moral cesspit that is Dubai, or duckpouting photoshopped Instagram types. Don't see the appeal in them at all TBH. But each to their own and that.
