Finally all sorted. Great bargain, especially considering my controller had major stick drift and I had to put a disc in 3 or 4 times before the Xbox would read it. Passed their tests anyway.

I was wondering was there any major differences between the original and one s.

    Physical size (much smaller)
    Built in blu ray player
Lose Kinect port (dead tech now anyway)
    Not much else different

    Quick comparison on here

Why'd you trade a One S against a One S? Did they give you any extra?

It's a 4k Blueray player in the One S and a standard Blueray in the One.

There is also no power brick with the S.

    Ultra-HD Blu-Ray player
    4K Upscaling
    HDR
    Size and Efficiency

    Those are the main upgrades

Does the controller have to be an official one?

  • Administrators Posts: 54,834 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

If FIFA was digital instead of a disc I'd probably go for this to get the HDMI2.0 connection. :(

Considering availaing of the deal but don't want to lose out on the extra storage I have!

No i asked, you can trade in your 1TB but you'll only get a 5000gb.

Did your old one shut down randomly? Could because it was overheating, make sure the console has plenty of ventelation.

could do with this deal, current xbox refuses to read discs until i put it in and out like 5 times

It did, and we’ve been through every step we could find to sort it.

They won't accept a faulty one as a trade in.

Yup, and I had completely reset it, so there wasn't a game on the hard drive that they could test. To be safe, I'd probably take it in with a game on the hard drive.

Don't you need to leave your live account on there to start the game?

Its just what came up on the computer when they scanned it all in or whatever. I don't want to get them in trouble so I wont say but its not in Dublin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 289 ✭✭direstraits

I have called few different stores today (dublin) seems it varies from store to store.

I was told in one store, can't trade xbox one S, another told me no problem to trade, another said that ronaldo edition costs an extra 20 bringing it to 90.00euro, seems staff not fully briefed on the offer...

When I first went in I was told that, asked are they sure as the emails said different and Gamestop FB had told me it was €69.99 - they checked some promo sheet for a min or two and said I was right.

Seems to have been really poorly communicated all round but got the deal in the end so can't complain.

Just traded in my Xbox one s and was told it could be used against this deal. The queue in the shop with people looking to trade in old consoles is hilarious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,752 ✭✭✭Nyum Nyum

Tried to trade mine in (won't say where for now...) and it mysteriously "wouldn't give a video output". Apparently it was tested with another HDMI cable and on another tv.

I get home and try it.......it works perfectly

Trying another location tomorrow where hopefully the trade in goes through and I shall ring the first place and let him know (politely...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭Shred

I picked one up earlier but it won't power on; I get the power on chime but nothing happens, pressing the eject button also gives an audible tone too...the power cable works with another device so it looks like it's screwed ffs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,825 ✭✭✭IvoryTower

I noticed the power cable needs to be pushed in kinda hard make sure it's in the full way

And make sure hdmi cable in in tva nd not satellite

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭Shred

Cheers, the cable's firmly in alright and I would expect it to power on with no HDMI connected but I've tried anyway and no joy either way.

Was exactly as the offer said in Dun Laoghaire store.

Brought in the xbox one 500gb which has been very heavily used since original launch. And got brand new one s with forza + hotwheels expansion.

No problems at all and I was charged 61 euros rather than the 70 with some 9 euro bonus on the receipt??

Its a killer deal, if for nothing other than the new console warranty.

Try holding the power button down for 10 seconds, it should beep 2 or 3 times. Then when it stops beeping just press the power button again.

Went in and got this today - they tested the xbox then formatted it. Signed me up for a loyalty card which brought the price down to €51 for Fifa ronaldo edition, forza and hot wheels. Serious BA thanks OP.

Cheers but no joy - I get a single tone and nothing. The strange thing is, when I initially connect the power I can try either the power or eject buttons 2 or 3 times and get a tone but it doesn't power on. I then have to disconnect the power and reconnect it before that'll happen again. Then when I try the eject button, on the second or third attempt I can feel some slight movement as if it's about to fire but then nothing.

Maybe try changing the fuse in the plug? If not just return it for a replacement.

I did think of that earlier but the same cable powers on another device so the fuse seems OK. Yeah it looks like I'll have to bring it back, I won't be able to get back in there until Thursday. Cheers for the suggestions.

Are you plugging it into an extension lead? Not sure about this model, but they strongly advised against it for the earlier model. Try plugging it straight into the wall. Also try a different hdmi lead / port on the TV
