That was a surprise in the football, we have better footballers than that and really should be beating Limerick. Fair dues to Limerick all the same.

There is a littany of faults with the hurlers. A lot of old ones too.

I think Cork hurlers have too many players that have failed to perform in the past in big games. Tonight wasn't a big game but Cork lost and 15 points is a hammering. Its time for a bit of a clear out soon or we arent going to have any success in the senior grade. Easier said than done i know.

With the Hurlers we must ask ourselves have we improved over the last few years when it comes to winning ball in the half forward line , our short passing under pressure , our puck out strategy, defenders who can dominate their opponents by being aggressive without fouling . I cant see any improvement maybe we just have to accept that it aint going to happen with our current crop of players

Lads i was at match from a Limerick point of view cork gave as much as they got in 1st half and at times looked slick can't understand what happened in second half I wouldn't be giving them a get out of jail free card there are issues ye've had for a while but it's only Jan one positive is aidan walsh I thought he tried manfully and to be honest I didn't rate him.

Limerick are good plus we might have found 1 or 2 lads that'll be pushing hard to start in the backs where we need cover

Best of luck to Fr O'Neills and Russell Rovers tomorrow. both games will be streamed on TG4's youtube page. Junior final at 4 and Intermediate at 6

Yeah lucky to be only four down. Not a great first half.

Nearly three minutes of the second half and the Kilkenny crowd have added three points already. Double scores. Hopefully this doesn't get out of hand. Bud harnett had only one point in the first half. He will have to pull the finger out in this half.

Russel rovers 0-10 0-16 shamrocks 40 minutes gone.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,903 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Russell rovers can score it's just the other end the Kilkenny crowd are taking the chances they are getting.

Not to be Rovers' day but well done to Conahy, the better team and lead from start to finish. 0-22 to 0-15 FT

Yeah hard luck to them but sure there isn't a gaa club in Ireland who haven't had a day like RR had today.

O'Neills with a good start then went to sleep and now concede a goal from the keeper hitting a short free to a tulloroan forward.

    O'Neills 1-6 Tulloroan 2-5 HT

  • Registered Users Posts: 406 ✭✭sliabh 1956

that was a bad goal to give away just before the break

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,121 ✭✭✭zetecescort

    2nd O'Neills goal, leading 2-7 to 2-5 after 37 min

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,121 ✭✭✭zetecescort

massive strike by Dalton for O'Neills 3rd goal and followed by another goal, 4-8 to 2-12 after 45

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,121 ✭✭✭zetecescort

3rd Tulloroan goal along with a few points has them 3-17 to 4-9 ahead after 55 min

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,121 ✭✭✭zetecescort

5th O'Neills goal, 5-10 to 3-17 after 58 min. not good for the heart

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,903 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

They might see it like that tomorrow morning but now they are probably in shock.

Cracking game - they persisted with too many puck outs landing on their half backs in the latter stages of the second half and that's where Tullaroan got the run on the them for 10 minutes - great comeback - shame it was just short

What is it with Cork teams we find it so hard to win aerial ball both in the backs and in the forwards maybe the two players suspended might have swung it . Fair play to the Cats they never give up they worked that last score really well.

Hard luck to Fr O Neills, I thought when goals 3 and 4 went in they would surely win it from there but it seems you beat KK teams 3 or 4 times and they still come back at you, poor puck outs cost them at vital times, but you cant be critical really, unreal match, could have went either way at the finish.

The team that beat Russell Rovers looked a very strong outfit, the gap between the Senior and Junior in KK isn't that wide.

Just on that point we only have 12 teams in Senior and 12 teams in Intermediate so in comparison to other counties that have bigger numbers in those grades our Juniors are potentially quite strong. Our best Junior team is theoretically our 25th best team whereas in other counties they could be 36th or more - don't know how the Cork championship works.

I'd like to see Kilkenny introduce a couple of divisional teams like Cork and Kerry to give Junior players in particular an opportunity to play senior championship but not sure how you'd even go about setting that up from scratch. Especially now with the calender so full as it is.

In Cork in 2019(tho there will be a revamp in 2020) there was 20 senior clubs not including divisional sides, 16 Intermediate Premier, 16 Intermediate B. Russell rovers won the Junior so that would make them the 53rd best hurling team. There is more than 70 Junior clubs in Cork so the team that wins it would be fairly strong. Cork would have a population about 4 times the size of KK but not all areas play hurling but most do. The one criticism I would have of the Junior and Intermediate club championships is that each county have their own grading systems so its hard to know if you have a level playing field. In the senior at least the best team in each county plays off against each other so its easier to work out. But Im not having a go at KK teams who had 2 excellent wins again yesterday, clearly there is incredible work going on at club level as well as county level.

In Cork This year we have the following:
    Senior A - 12 teams
    Senior B - 12 Teams ==> Fr O'Neills promoted to this grade
    Prem Intermediate - 12 Teams
    Intermediate a - 12 Teams
Lower Intermediate - 12 Teams ==> Russell Rovers just promoted to this grade
    Then Junior
So in theory Russell Rovers are the 60th team in Cork - I know this year is slightly different as there are new grades & the plan is to remove Lower intermediate in 2 years time. Also Fr O'Neills would be the 24th team in Cork

similar situation in the football with Kerry intermediate and junior clubs dominating Munster because they have fewer teams at senior

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭JJs Left Hand

There's only about 12 clubs at Junior in Kilkenny plus B teams though just to be clear. The remainder of the grades like Junior A, B, C and D are B and C teams of the bigger clubs.

Bit of a joke Corks third tier not allowed take part at Junior. Presumably if Cork renamed the Intermediate championship as Junior they'd be allowed take part in the Junior All Ire series which highlight what a farce the grading is.
