Disagree with you on that one. Never seemed to be lacking heart and drive for the cause. There’s only so much you can do from goal and the mistakes were rare. Quality player.

Will always remember the anticipation of him coming up for a 20M free in 2013.

Who’re the 10 young players in the development squad?

Walsh and Joyce fair enough but not a hope in hell there are 30 better hurlers in Cork than Lehane. He is majestic with the hurl but for some reason his form has dipped under Meyler/Kingston.

Jimmy Barry Murphy had him firing on all cylinders.

Still only 28, so maybe a good Cork SHC with Midleton next summer might invigorate him!

Trying to think of anyone who had a break from intercounty hurling and then came back better?

Big part of Lehane's game was pace as well, something that'll he start to lose soon

Lehane is red useless. He has been for a long time and shouldn't be anywhere near the inter County setup anymore. He bottled too many performances lately.

Brian Corcoran was excellent when he came back, but he was a two-time hurler of the year before that so I don’t think we can say he peaked second time round.

No I suppose what I’m saying is it worked out when he came back. Had a big influence and performances vindicated the decision to come back

It's sad to see someone with the obvious skill level of Lehane go the way he has gone. I'm sure on skill alone and in training matches down the Pairc under no pressure he runs lads ragged and has every trick in the book. And if that's your only metric then I'd say that for sure he's one of the top 30 hurlers in the county. But unfortunately there's a lot more to it than just that flair. He has been an enigma for years and should have been released from the squad a long time ago. Time and time again he has failed to deliver and successive managements have persisted with him. Totally anonymous in far too many matches that he plays.

Interesting to see what happens if club championship goes first and Lehane shoots the lights out for Midleton. Does he get back in on club form if so or is the door closed because, even if he’s inconsistent for Cork, I would be pleasantly surprised if there ends up being many forwards better than him in the club game this year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,974 ✭✭✭Plastik

And for sure, that could easily happen such is his talent. But 28 now, he's not some untried untested green young lad to the inter county game. Short of going back to Midleton and an absolutely truly dominant display against all opposition I don't see him getting back into the squad in any meaningful way. At this stage you simply can't ignore past performances as a prediction of future success with Lehane. There's no point being able to shoot the lights out for Midleton in club champs against non-intercounty backs, when all the evidence is that he just doesn't possess that same ability at the next level up. And mores the pity, because the days he had the head right when playing with Cork he was majestic. But give me Daniel Kearney back in the squad any day in his place.

I’m convinced the break will do wonders for Lehane and give him a chance to relax a bit. I’d certainly expect to see him back again playing on the team and playing well

From a Cork pov, Hennessy and Tomas Mul were dropped in '89

He is up there skill wise with Hoggie, excellent stick man.

I think Lehanes problem is between the ears.

He was excellent for Midleton v Ballygunnar in Munster championship at the end of 2018.

Anyone who thinks he is 'useless' hasn't a clue.

Let us see how he gets on with Midleton in 2021 Club.

Midleton should be pushing on too, a lot of talented hurlers in that club.

Is that true? Amazing if it is considering they played a huge part when Cork won the All-Ireland the following year.

Not much between them, a couple of yellows for Limerick defenders. We should be taking them on more when in possession.
Cunningham keeping us in it with his frees.

    Cork 0-10 Limerick 2-9

2 goals in the last minutes of the first half sees us behind by 2-09 v 0-10

O'Connor at 6 is playing well. We were unlucky not to score a goal on 2 occasions and our fowards are beginning to get some success by running at the defence but they need some better ball as it is more hit and hope coming into them.

Better ball intto them and they are well capable of scoring a few goals.

Gap out to 7, Limerick defence well on top since HT

    Awful 15 minutes, 10 down.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,514 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Those 2 goals before half time killed us. Very poor goals to give away. Since then Limerick have powered on and are in complete control with Cork having a load of awful wides. Up until the goals I thought we would win this handy! Turns out it was the other way around.

    Very disappointing

Cork hurling is in a very worrying place.

The execution of the basic skills is very poor by some players.

Is the standard of coaching in the county this bad?
