Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The minors forwards look very good. We missed a good few scores too though so there is room for improvement.

Tipp looked very low on confidence until they started the second half. Thankfully we responded after a while and pulled ahead again.

Below are highlights from the match

last 5 points of the half turns us from 4 down to 1 up at halftime, Cork 0-12 Tipp 0-11

Tipp goal with 10 min to go left 3 in it but we have hit the next 5 points to lead by 8 after 57 min

1-28 to 1-19 FT. Fine display, reacted well to the Tipp goal and drove on to win. Cunningham with 1-8 or 1-9

Another fine win. Playing some nice hurling.

Lot of good players on that team. Don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves but the future looks bright.

    Cunningham looks total class

Hurley named to start, Sherlock on the bench which is odd as you'd nearly have him on for frees alone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,530 ✭✭✭Car99

Sorry if this isn't the right forum but id like a bit of info . I'm intending to go to Pairc Ui Chaoimh tomorrow for the NHL final. I have two premium seat tickets , myself and herself were intending to go early and get a bite to eat in the restaurant before the game. We would like to bring our two kids 7 and 10 with us . Does anyone know if that would be an issue at the gate seeing as we only have the two tickets?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,009 ✭✭✭thefa

I would think it’s likely to be an issue unfortunately.

That reminds me of when I was that age and squeezing through turnstiles with my dad on the one ticket. The terraces used to be packed and when you were that height, you would need a spot at a barrier. Think that was only clamped down on it in the late 90s.

I remember the exact same , squeezing in to the turnstile shuffling along.

Is today’s game against Clare being streamed anywhere

Not good news. Steven Sherlock starts for Cork as Brian Hurley out through injury. Dan Dineen added to squad.

    Hurley is a big loss

Cork 0-6 Clare 0-4 at HT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

    Half time

    Clare 0-4 Cork 0-6

Close game. Cork almost had a goal but hit crossbar

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Martin with a great save keeping us in it, 11-11 with 10 min or so left. Sherlock doing the scoring on his own, dire that we dont have players apart him and Hurley to kick a point

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,676 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

All over. Lost. That's an unbelievably damaging loss, my god

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,166 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Cork 0-13 Clare 0-14 FT. just when you think they make a bit of progress in the league they let you down again.

Lost by a point. Without Hurley I knew we were in trouble. As Zetec said, we just rely on him and Sherlock.

    A miserable day for Cork

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,676 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

Hard to put into words how bad that is. Absolute disaster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

This is ridiculous just relying on one player to score

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

What happens next? No games until the group stages?

It's the Cork footballers we are talking about lads. They never fail to surprise us. Terrible performance and terrible loss. Cork football is in dire straits.

The only surprise I have is that people are surprised we lost.

    Clare were super bet today

Way overpriced, couldn't believe the value on Clare.

Moreover, even though 4th in D2 should be one of the top 7 league qualifiers, you're still not 100% guaranteed to be in the last 16 if there are any more shocks.

Was Brian Hurley on today lads?

I know the hurlers haven't been going well in recent years, but one consistent theme with the footballers over the years, is that when you think they're finally making some progress, they smack you right in the face! I think it's all up in the air now, whether we get into the qualifiers or not. Between this and Limericks ominous display in the league final, it looks like the all Ireland drought in both codes on Leeside will extend to at least another year!

We knew we were a long way off being all Ireland contenders, and today sure was another reminder of that! I'm still of the opinion that we need to give John Cleary a fair crack at it, but my bare minimum target was to get to a Munster final, and put it right up to Kerry. That objective has been failed. Well done to Clare anyway, and best of luck to them against Limerick.

Until we find a bit more quality in the forwards, it'll be hard to make progress. We won an underage all Ireland double in 2019, but unfortunately here we are four years later, still waiting for that success to transition to senior level.

Even when we win all Irelands in football we fail to build on it. The 1973 and 2010 all Ireland winning teams never built on those wins, and the 1989/1990 team left a few more all Irelands after them as well. Frustration, disappointment and Cork football go hand in hand.

Indeed with the exception of the 1999-2006 hurling squad and the footballers in the Connor Counihan era, we've sure had a lot of heartbreak and disappointment in both codes since 1990. That was the price you pay when you leave Frank Murphy in charge for too long though. Considering the size of the county and the amount of clubs we have, we are without a shadow of a doubt the biggest underachievers in the GAA.

The biggest problem with the Cork footballers is it's coaching structures. They are absolutely abysmal and have been for years. Not enough quality there to instruct talented footballers at underage levels and bring through the quality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,124 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Our player development at both codes has been abysmal for years. We did win underage all Ireland doubles though in both codes in 2019 and 2021, so we obviously must be doing something right. Then again translating underage success into success at senior level can be hard i suppose. You only have to ask a Galway hurling fan about that.

hard luck today lads , i have praised the footballers a lot when people on here wouldn't jump but i totally get it now ,

4 weeks ago without Stephan sherlock ye rolled up to ennis took clare apart and looked to have all the boxes ticked , that day 7 different scorers 3 goals scored and probably unlucky not to had 5

the most impressive thing that day was the kick out strategy and the pace in which they moved the ball after , all of this was non existent today , chris og jones was most impressive that day and was no where today , powter did very little either while ian mcguire was beaten in the 2nd half , 4 weeks ago he cleaned us

i talked up all them players in the past and like yourselves i cant put my finger on it either everything looked flat today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,563 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Yes that's the problem with the footballers. Every time I think they have turned the corner, they seem to fall apart again. When I read that Clare had 14 wides too then you know things are fairly bad. Thing is they need to use this defeat and use it for hunger the next day. Problem is that they might come out and do that but then the following week get trounced. You just never know what team turns up with them.

Congrats to Clare and Hope they can go on to win Munster!

The signs were there. We lost to Louth few weeks ago.

Few of us were slated for calling out Cork football for what it is.

I'm glad it does not bother me. I gave up hope in Cork football over past few years. This won't be the end of it either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,119 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

wides are a huge problem for us , usually 50/60 % of our scores are kicked from frees , today we caught ye flat , hopfully we can beat limerick and take the bullet for the rest of munster against the Clifford's , problem is and i am sure its what frustrates cork people is ye would really ask questions of kerry in a final , if we got their i am not so sure we will

its important now for cork to pick up after this , use the group stage of the qualifiers to get back to speed and at least a 1/4 final place , its only year one of this management team remember
