are we a bit light at half forward? no Michael Cahalane?

anyway, best of luck to both teams on Sunday, great to have the summer starting

What does everyone think about Sunday?

I am confident of a win as we are at home but the onus is on us to hit the ground running. I don't know what to make of the league form. Clare won 3 out of 5 so probably did better but I liked Cork in the playoff against Waterford as it felt like when we had to do it, we did it.All that probably goes out the window anyway!

Until we get to see everyone's first game, I think these games are a toss up but we are at home and its the first ever hurling championship in the new Pairc so I give us the slight advantage. Clare had the best defensive record in the league but not sure about their attack whereas I think Cork might have a better attack than defence.

I think Cork will just have enough to get over the line.

    Looking forward it though!

Hard game to call. I think we can win a tight game. Home advantage might be enough to sway it, hoping the pitch will be better than the last time a game was played on it.
Interesting team, missing a few but
I think we we still have enough to get over the line. Harnedy and Hoggie need to have a big games.

Sounds like there is a great minor game in progress! Clare up by 2 pts at half time

    Cork 0-14 Clare 3-07

Cork won the minor game. Sounds like a cracker of a game. Clare had a player sent off too

    Cork 0-26 Clare 3-13

Cork ahead by a point at half time.

Twice the ball has gone in to the Clare defence with a 2 v2. Twice both clare defenders have gone for the ball at the same time and one of them won it. If we get a break there in the second half we will get a goal. Just need them to not catch it!! :pac:

Still see us pulling the win out but it is still very tight.

The big names stood up today. Very good second half performance. Hoggies point from play with about 15 to go was majestic.
Robbie losing consciousness is a worry but it wasn't for long so hopefully he will be ok.

Great to see the sheer effort by the fowards in tracking back and hooking the Clare lads, that to me was the big difference, it stopped them scoring and really lifted our lads. Defence did well also, all in all very happy with that.

Tip next in Thurles, after losing today they will be all out for the win.

I thought we might get at least one goal in the second half and we did!

Great hustling all around from Cork. Some amount of blocks and hooks, Great work rate from Cork.

Everytime we went a few points up the ref seemed to give them a handy free to keep them in it but they had Reidy, O'Donnell and Malone playing very well too.

Hope Robbie O'Flynn is ok and they said that he was briefly knocked out recovered a bit.

Some great perfiormances for Cork. Fitzgibbon was outstanding.Lehane, Horgan and Harnedy all played very well too.

The overall battling was incredible. Kearney was all over the pitch too.

We had the extra man for nearly the last 20 min and struugled until the last few minutes, a bit like the senior game. No.11 Barrett from Blarney was very good

While it's absolutely fantastic to see the work rate of the team, the new format is really worrying me with regards to burnout. That was an almighty battle out there today and Tipp and Limerick won't be any walk in the park either one weekend after the next. I know we've the week off before the Waterford game but the lads will be absolutely f*cked I'd say by the time that comes around.

An amazing player and person, always gave it her all, watched her play countless games down the years, she'll continue with Inniscarra but a huge loss to Corks inter county teams.

I have two seated tickets for the old stand for Sunday. I don't want anything for them. They are in pdf format so I can email them to whoever wants them. All I ask in return is that the tickets are used (scanned at the turnstiles). Pm me if you want them.

Hi lads new to this forum!I think it's hard to know where we stand ahead of the tipp game ,Clare created plenty goal chances That them tipp forwards will finish on Sunday at the same time there seems to be savage character in this group so hoping for a classic on sunday

There are surely far more questions about Tipp than there is about Cork though, especially the one you ahve alluded to there about attitude and work rate.

I doubt tipp will be found wanting for work rate Sunday, there backs are to the wall. They will fight like dogs.

I wish I could believe you, but I'm not even sure there is any fight left in this dog anymore.

Thats fine I just think we are a bit cocky heading into this ,we beat a mediocre Clare team ,who had 4 or 5 clear cut goal chances. That tipp forward line scares me ,they haven't become bad players over night

Jesus that's some crazy talk. Just under two years ago they annihilated a Kilkenny team to win the All Ireland, two more points against Galway in the All Ireland semi final last year and they'd have been in another final, one I'd have fancied them to win.

We're just out of a couple of years in the wilderness, and after a poor league campaign. Tipp got to the final. Things are looking brighter for us but in no way are Tipp down and out. It's madness to think they won't be extremely dangerous on Sunday.

terrible bad luck for Alan Cadogan but a great opportunity for someone like Jack O'Connor or Robbie O'Flynn when he recovers

  • Registered Users Posts: 140 ✭✭Rebel norrie

I hope I am wrong. But I think we are in trouble Sunday. We beat a poor Clare team. & Tipp will have their big names back.

Tipp will definitely be dangerous but that Tipp display was one of the worst I think I have ever seen them play. I would rather be in Corks shoes for this coming game so I don't know why we should be really worried more than just the normal game. They surely won't be as bad though. When I hear the Tipp manager not doing interviews then something is definitely wrong in their camp.

From our point of view, we still have a few things to improve on though.

    1. The slow start. We gave them a 3 point lead before we got going.

    2. Our first half was poor. Cork only won 9 out of 17 of their own puckouts in the first half. That gave them a bit of a platform. We did a bit better in the 2nd half but we def can do better.

    3. The goal chances they had. I don't think they were as clear cut as other people do. I thought Clare were trying to make them out of nothing but they were caused by Clare running at our defence. The good thing is that Cork massed in front of goal and then put pressure on the attacker. Good play but we need to stop them from getting in that close.

    On the good side.....

The good thing is that Cork were very disciplined when they massed in front of the goal and defending in general. Thankfully no Kamikaze stuff from Cahalane in particular! We only conceded 6 frees in our own half which is very good.

I have no inside info but I didn't think Lehane was fully fit yet he still played great.

Daniel Kearney worked his socks off. Dean Brosnan did well when he came on too and he gives a physical presence there.

I heard Mikey Cahalane was injured the last day and should come back into contention.

These are all in addition to the other great performances from Fitzgibbon. Horgan etc so I think we are entitled to go with a bit of confidence.Cork/Tipp games always end up surprising us but we are in a good place. Lots to improve on as well but it is looking good from my point of view.

A wounded Tipp team in thurles on Sunday are dangerous Animals .cork need a good game plan. Daniel Kearney was outstanding last Sunday his workrate is huge.

  • Registered Users Posts: 145 ✭✭GeordieRebel

I think it's largely going to come down to which full back line holds up best, and whether we can win ball from puck outs against the two Mahers. Could be a very high scoring game I think.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,886 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Tip badly need a win and a good performance, thus puts added pressure on them.
Cork will certainly not fear Tip and are going into the game in a far better mindset.
Close game in the home of hurling with us winning by a couple of points I think.

I know it's probably an unpopular opinion but I think Nash is a liability. His puckouts were awful, and for the second goal he should've went down, instead they went through his legs.

His puckouts are a massive asset I think? Some difference between his and Tuohys
