What a terrific game in Thurles.Ye were fantastic first half.Really thought Tipp's season was done.Luckily we recovered.Cork will be very satisfied with a point though.Ye should beat Waterford.Fitzgibbon is a serious player.Ye have some great players coming.Tipp had no answer in that first half.Ye needed to close it out, lacked a bit of experience on that front.
Limerick will be a tough game at home after a weeks rest,i fancy Limerick to edge it but with 5 points ye will prob make a Munster Final and definitely top 3.
I fancy Clare to beat us in Thurles.Conceding 1-15 in first 35 mins sends alarm bells ringing

I done both !!! probably the best keeper in the country, reads the game well, great shot stopper, most of his puck outs are good. unlucky not to get all-star last year !

Outstanding yesterday and a top class keeper but Eoin Murphy is in a differnent league, best keeper in the country by a considerable margin.

I don't really get all the confidence that Limerick will beat us next Saturday,i feel we are more than a match for them ,tipp Wer very poor against them and still put up a decent enough score, add in that we are at home and a win will see us through Munster.I give us a great chance if our backs perform like first half yesterday

Where are you hearing all this 'confidence' from.? Ger Loughnane maybe.?
Certainly not from many in Limerick.
I for one will be travelling to PUC only in hope. Would gladly take another draw.
A trend is already developing where home teams are winning, they simply have to, and would've targeted that from the outset. Kilkenny/Dublin was an exception but the Dubs simply had no luck. Look at how Tipp dug deep yesterday with backs to the wall in their own backyard.
I posted here some time back that Clare will not lose at home and after yesterday that looks a real probability.

Great news on Colm O Neill and with Sean Powter and Brian Hurley back cork football look to be on the up at last. Ronan McCarty and his backroom team have got a good squad put together, after a poor league this win will build confidence. Liverpool could be after our goalkeeper what a good young player.

Ciaran Carey says your the best team in the country and says it's all in your own hands ,thinks ye will beat us handy.I accept ye are a decent team but we shouldnt be scared of ye ,there are weaknesses there too

I'd feel a lot more confident if Limerick had played last weekend, but we'll have that advantage against Waterford so no complaints there.

The likes of Cooper, Fitzgibbon and Kearney have done Trojan work the last two days, and I don't really see like for like replacements to provide fresh legs. I would've said Lawton could come in before the championship started but think he's looked a bit off championship pace so far. It depends what condition lads are in prior to the game but I wouldn't be surprised to see Brosnan start.

I don't see a whole lot between the two teams. We're probably a bit more experienced and I would probably trust Horgan, Lehane and Harnedy over the Limerick lads if it gets close. Just because they've more of a past record.

I would be tempted to bring in Cadogan as Hegarty is the type of player Joyce has struggled against that type of player in the past, was a bit off in the second half on Sunday and Hegarty is a bad match up for Coleman.

If Limerick don't give us short puck outs, Harnedy may have to come out to the half forward line to win ball which will hurt us as I would fancy him to do damage against Hickey if they're matched up. I was surprised Mike Casey didn't start last week.

I think we match up relatively well in the full back line, but Limerick have good players there. Limerick's corner backs are very good but if we get the right quality of ball in, Horgan and Kingston will do damage against most.

    Should be a fun game!

This should be a cracker looking forward to seeing the new ground I think Carey was trying to instill belief into the Limerick players plus they prob were v selective in what they printed. If results pan out the way I think they might we,ll need something from this or more than likely have to win or draw in Ennis in our last match and would prefer if we could avoid that sat night will be a cracker I feel

Looking forward to Saturday. I expect to see a completely new full back line for the Minors, and I think the Seniors can rattle Limerick.

What do ye all think the difference will be this weekend between Cork on third week in a row and limerick having had a week off. Will Limerick be fresher?

Tipp's last game will be the fouth week in a row whereas Clare will be coming off a rest week.

Will be interesting to see the difference over teh weeks.

Limerick minors beat Tipp in their first outing. Played well but did get the lucky breaks on the day (for a change) Impossible to call minors from one game to the next. Seems to be following the Senior trend, ie home teams are winning.
Cork seniors will be firm favourites V Limerick.

The full back isn't even in the panel anymore. He wasn't up to it, to be fair to the young fella.

    I'm counting 7/8 changes.

Nice to see Brosnan getting a start, bit more physicality in the half foward line is no harm.
This is a really big game for us and I fancy a win by a about 3 points.

Something badly wrong with the minor team.

Getting hammered at the moment halfway through the 2nd half

    Cork 0-11 Limerick 1-17

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭The White Feather

From the sounds of it, another dismal minor performance but I am not there so maybe I am a bit harsh!

It finished Cork 0-17 Limerick 1-20

Before the senior game starts I will put my head on the chopping block and give my prediction.

I see Cork winning this game by about 5+ points. Not saying it will be easy as anything can happen and especially in Munster as everyone can beat each other. But I think if we play as well as we can, then we will be fine. I wasn't impressed by Limerick at all against Tipp.Of course they could surprise me, but I think Cork will beat Limerick and Waterford. Clare and Tipp were the harder games to me but of course I may be wrong.Just calling it as I see it at the moment.

2 points up at ht, happy with that.

Limerick lost their captain through injury and then went down to 14, correct decision.
He also booked O'donoghue, which was strange and could have had to send him off for a jersey pull then. I think we should take him off at ht.

I agree about O'Donoghue, would get Conor O'Sullivan on personally. He's shown he's an excellent sweeper in the past. Love Coleman as a hurler but feel when he's sweeping he tends to over play the ball compared to what he usually does.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Cork ahead by 2 points at half time. We really should be more up by now.

Limerick just hanging in there. If we can get a few more points on the board it will be very hard for them to come back with only 14 men.

Brosnan and Cooper in particular have been below par and I would hope to see Meade come on very soon if not at half time.

I'd take O'Donoghue off as he has a yellow and he has come very close to being sent off.

O'Mahony and Meade on for o'donoghue and brosnan.

    Draw

Cracking second half, we were asleep for most if it, especially Cahalane. He should have been moved earlier.
Fluffed picking the ball up while facing our goal at the end again today, but at least he didn't score.

Another game we could and should have won though. Came back well from 3 point down again third week syndrome.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭The White Feather

A draw was a fair result but we really should have won that. Just let them back in for the equaliser after a weak clearance. Probably due to tired legs.

Good to get a break and regroup as the third game in a row made us look a bit jaded. Just a tad slow in clearances and passes that you get with tiredness.A poor puckout from Nash that you hardly ever see, a misplaced pass in the backline with no limerick player around, a clarance that doesn't go long. All led to Limerick points and I think they only come after 3 games in a row.

Still says a lot about us that we don't give up even when 3 points down near the end.We ended up going a point up.Thats after a period where we didn't even score.

Unbeaten after 3 games is very good.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭Mahony0509

Thought our tactics were brutal when we went down to 14, however I still think we were robbed. Referee was clearly playing for a draw, and was brutal. The last play of the game was a blatant free in, and he blew the FT whistle?

  • Registered Users Posts: 145 ✭✭GeordieRebel

Hard to know what to take away from that. Brilliant game. Second time in a row we've been blitzed straight after half time and went very flat from there on. None of the crispness takig the ball out of the back line that we had earlier. I think the spare man encouraged them to overplay. We're at our best when it goes short, one pass and then the diagonal into the full forward line. That Limerick forward line worked their socks off and deserve huge credit.

Still think we're short a ball winner in the half forward line as we have been for years, Brosnan was off the pace.

Good to see them step up at the end again though, especially Hoggy who used to get criticised for that sort of thing but is a real leader.

We're in a decent position. Need a 70 minute performance the next day out.

Don't think a goalkeeper can use tiredness as an excuse. Mistakes seem to be creeping into Nash's game.
