In Corks first game of the Camogie league division 2b, we started with a win !

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

It would be nice if we can spoil the Jim McGuinness homecoming party by getting a win up in Donegal. If we want to be winning all Irelands, then we need to get promoted back to division one asap. It's over a decade ago now, but i still haven't got over that defeat to them in 2012!

Down 0-12 v 1-03 at ht - played against the very strong elements.

Should be an interesting second half.

Still feels like we’re short quality from midfield up to compete in division 1.

The wind is making a huge difference. Donegal keeping the scoreboard ticking over nicely.

Cork 1-3 Donegal 0-12 HT. we have the wind in the 2nd half

Cork ladies football 1-6 Armagh 1-8 FT

I think the ladies might have a tough year with all the changes to the team but it was only a 2 point loss in the end so maybe they might do better than I think.

Hopefully the wind will help the men now but that is still a big gap to claw back

    Donegal: 1-20 Cork: 2-6 FT

As I feared, we cannot let teams get that far ahead of us by half time. Wind or not, it shouldn't be happening.

As usual, the Cork footballers are consistently inconsistent. Sick of seeing the same thing from them

Their hard forward running is so naive at times, they run into trouble so much. They just seem to lack any real overall plan when attacking.

    1-20 v 2-06

A deserved loss. Donegal played the conditions much better and kicked some fine points.

We seemed way too shy to shoot for points, trying to work it into the perfect spot all the time and running into too many dead ends.

Donegal will prove a handful for any team this year.

Cork football has been in trouble for over a decade now. Hammered out the gate today. As usual they will start to play later in the league when its too late. Pityful to watch.

A bad defeat we have a lot of work to do. Of course we can still win promotion, but this sure isn't an encouraging sign.

That’s a Junior Tipp team mind you. They’d be very weak

Very poor display yesterday. The constant running into dead ends and being easily dispossessed seems to be endemic in the team at this stage.

SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoinh it is, 10 year deal.

Pity they didn't start with that name!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,011 ✭✭✭DellyBelly

Nothing is ever straightforward when it comes to Cork Gaa. The name is fine. I think it will be shortened to Supervalue Parc by people

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,243 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

You welcomed it with open arms and we're all set to bury the name for a million quid.

The first deal was a million for 3 years? Now it's 3 million for ten years according to the examiner (Irish times says it's 2.5 million). Supervalu after running rings around the county board. But the county board was always behind the white ball because the financial situation is out there for all to see.

    RTE says something different:

'The value of the partnership is regarded as a confidential commercial matter and has not been disclosed. It was previously reported that the naming rights deal could be worth €250,000 per year, but that estimate may have erred on the conservative side.

Páirc Uí Chaoimh was redeveloped in 2017 and has a debt of €30m, which is to be repaid over 25 years.

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Cork GAA chief executive Kevin O’Donovan denied that negative feedback played a part in the retention of the stadium name in the sponsorship agreement. (Who is this guy kidding?)

Tánaiste Micheál Martin was among those criticising the proposal to change the name, the Cork North Central TD saying he was "deeply disappointed and annoyed" by the plans, but O’Donovan refuted any suggestion of government pressure in the decision.

"There was no influence from government, there was no interference," he said. "We had no communication with government throughout this process, but we are sure they are happy with the outcome."

Cork are about as close to winning an AI in football as Ireland are to winning the football World Cup!

Who welcomed it with open arms? Whaat are you on about?

Bizarre that the first game for the Supervalu Parc is a rugby game...looks a sellout as well for it

'Getting a million for 3 years is pretty good value, if not desirable' - apparently equates to welcoming the deal with open arms - your command of the English language is clearly different form mine.

I notice you didn't quote my previous posts on the issue, I wonder why.

I think you are playing the game on your own, enjoy.

As regards the naming, this was the way it should always have gone so we got there in the end. Seems a good deal for Cork in fact.

The 37 man panel for the hurling leaue has been announced. Seán O’Donoghue is the captain once more and 3 from the U20s winners in it. Brion Saunderson, U20 Captain Micheál Mullins, and Ben Cunningham. 4 if you include Eoin Downey. Really excited to see how Cunningham and Mullins do. It is hoped that Pádraig Power will recover from injury to play some part around May. He has a shoulder injury. Declan Dalton is included but he has a fractured metatarsal so he will miss most of the league. Alan Connolly and Mark Coleman are both back which is a huge plus. They missed all of last year!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Not really no. Cork really should be aiming to be the best of the rest outside of Dublin and Kerry.

We need a few years in division one before we can even think about winning an all Ireland.

At least we keep the thing going though. We haven't done a Kilkenny on it and abandoned gaelic football at senior intercounty level altogether thankfully!😂

On the RTE GAA pod, Rory O'Neill reckons Cork has the strongest hurling squad in the country in terms of depth.

Maybe but I'd argue that while the number of hurlers is impressive, they're all of a similar enough level. There aren't too many that can drag the team through a game by themselves.

I really like the squad. I'm hoping one or two have real breakthrough years this year.
