Watching the documentary last night and seeing the Seán Óg section. You'd forget that he was the last winning captain for Cork. Seems so long ago now.

Back in 2005 who would have thought that from that day on we would be going 13+ years and counting until we would/ will win an All Ireland again in hurling? Is this the longest spell for Cork without an All Ireland?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,039 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

Longest drought was 16 years 1903-1919

This is the longest wait since the 1954-1966 period

somebody mentioned that we have won in every decade too, next year our last chance in this decade

Got to get a full Back and Centre back and hopefully few younger lads might make bench stronger.

Cause we can talk till cows come home but if they ain't fixed we ain't getting Liam.

Cork are close but all these boys are carrying a bit of baggage now with so many losses in Semis. I felt Cork sat back on that 6 point lead when 1 more would have done it. And Limerick do have a better squad which has to be something to aim for. You cannot bring back on the likes of Kearney when he had blown a gasket already for the cause. And to leave Harnedy on...! I feel like a right clown if I was an unused sub after that.

Not strictly true, the 1880's were a blank as well, although that wasnt a full decade so I guess thats why thats not been counted. Tipp are the only county to have won one in each decade.- '71 - '89 was cutting it fine granted!

    what about Kilkenny?

I hope to jesus that Patrick Collins is the goalkeeper next year. Nash gave away at least 5/6 points with his puckouts. Nothing but a liability imo.

    True.

I think Cahalane needs to be replaced with someone who is more solid and doesn't leak scores and gives away needless frees. He has been doing that for years now and we still haven't corrected that issue and we stick with him each year. He isn't good enough at full back and we need to address this if we want to win Liam in the coming years. Not targeting him personally here it's just he isn't the player Cork need in at that important position.

Didnt win their first until 1904, so have missed the first two, havent missed one since though.

He was bad the last day alright and he pucked out the ball aimlessly many a moment throughout the game. When he pucked the ball long he wasn't delivering good ball to Horgan who was very tightly marked.

That's amazing fact. With 36 All Ireland's I thought they have no problem filling each decade with wins.

Any truth that some of the substitutes that didnt take part on Sunday failed to show up for the team dinner last night . Apparently not to please seen players that had nothing left going back on

I'd be completely pissed off if I trained all year and someone who came off knackered or injured was put back on instead of me - all due respect to Harnedy who is an outstanding player but he was hobbling - how could a fit and fresh intercounty sub not offer more - same for Kearney - had to be a panic on the sidelines moment

Probably the 21s who're busy preparing for the game at the weekend.

Rubbish. What about all the scores he made??

Limerick pushed up on their markers between the 2 45s shutting down the space for his puckouts and he was trying to thread the needle on some of them which looks terrible when it goes wrong. His puckouts have been the winning of many games for us this year.
I think Nash takes one more year then hands over to Collins. He's 34 next year and the commitment involved is huge for anyone to make, especially when he has a young child/children (at least 1 anyway)
It's all about building depth for Cork now, I'd love to see Daire Connery get some game time in the National League next year with an eye on him and Daragh Fitz being the midfield pair of the next 10 years. Alan Cadogan being back next year offers us more firepower. Badly need another ball winner in the forwards to take the pressure off Harnedy.
To read some of the comments here, you'd think we were miles off an AI but a bit more composure and some more depth off the bench and we can challenge strongly.

I wonder does john meyler have a great relationship with the cork players. Before the start of extra time sunday it showed both teams huddles on the big screens and John Kiely was in the middle of the circle whereas meyler was standing to the side and didnt get involved. Also you didnt really see any photos of him celebrating with players after the Munster final.I just find it intresting and hes very fast to go on the radio like Monday night he was on off the ball when there wasnt any need really.

Players have a very good relationship with Meyler (with a few exceptions which is to be expected with any manager).
I'm general they'd be quite happy that he stays on.

How long did Nash train as understudy before he got the number 1 jersey?

From number 8 to 15 on that Cork team looks very strong.

Never heard of these, google tells me they're from Glanworth, any idea why the name? Seems about as far from a Harbour as you can get in Cork

Started in 2007 when Cusack was suspended for the Munster semi.
