Am finding it difficult to get a ballpark for a supply and fit of an Free Standing Stove in Cork. I would like it set into the fireplace a bit similar to the image attached

Stove itself seems to be around the 600 euro mark (5 or 6 kw)
I believe I will need a new fireplace also - so probably around 400 euro there also.

Part that seems to be difficult to get an answer on is the work require to make it inset - assume there is some kango'ing involved and also know that there is a flue liner required.

Does anyone have a ballpark or had this done

Sorry just to clarify that maybe my terminology is off - by inset I mean same as in the picture -after a bit of research I think inset is a type of stove also - i'm thinking freestanding but inset into the chimney breast

My sister got a very similar job done in Cork. She got Prestige Fireplaces to fit & supply and they were very tasty. Don't know what she paid but it wasn't exorbitant. They are up by Musgraves cash & carry. Hope this helps.

Thanks Chickenlittle - I have asked them for a ballpark quote - going to try Cork Chimney specialists also. Got a prelim quote from a third company for over 3k - which seemed a bit off to me - but not an expert.

Your chimney breast would need to be surveyed to attain the height and width of the flue gatherer/Lentil. This will dictate how high and wide you can open the chamber.
Variables- How are you finishing the inside and outside? Fireplace surround, Plastering the inside or stone Cladding?
Are you Relining the chimney with a flexible liner?
    Slate hearth or granite hearth?
Too many variables to say if 3k is cheap or expensive.

The 3K quote (3150) doesn’t include Fireplace or hearth - it include a chimney lining the stove and finish and creation of the recess - the fireplace we have was to be used unless broken while being removed to widen the area (if it was broken while removed an at cost fireplace would add to the quote - from the inset perspective there is enough height but not width and assume this would require a lot of labour (was told 2 days for the full job and a lot of kango’ing and mess)
The problem I have with the 3K quote was after asking several times i never got a breakdown of what the amount was for. I know the stove was around 600 - outside that all that was included was the lining - no sure how much this would be and the creation of the inset and finish - so this would assume 2400 for labour minus the lining and finish materials and any other materials required.

In the end I refused this quote - have asked a second company for a quote. The quote could be accurate but I wouldn’t spend money without knowing where it is going - anyway a second and a third quote always seem like a logical idea

Our fireplace has been covered up (plasterboard) by previous owners, so got a quote for re-opening it and installing a stove.

So including installation, vermiculite, flexi, pipes, starter, rain hat and hearth the quote was €1500. Not including the stove (we are buying a 5kw separately) and not including the Oak beam we bought for the mantelpiece instead of an actual fireplace.

Have asked him to also put up the beam for us, so he might charge a small bit extra for that.

I've asked around and he is very reasonable and highly recommended. Also called to the house to give recommendations in fairness as he was in the area.

I can PM contact details if you want, dont think i can post it up here

    Thanks Ronnie,

I assume you are not setting the stove into the fireplace but rather in front of it - please do pm on his details

Hoping to have it set back into the opening,as its a small living room. I dont think losing any heat by setting it back in will be an issue. Plus since they are reopening it they should be able to make the space big enough...i hope! Will PM details now
