Whats the phrase about people accusing others of what they do?? There's a well known phrase but brain not working.

as was mentioned, I do think the problems he had with the others stemmed from a personality thing. Denis and the rest didnt have all those qualities you listed. So Iain was isolated. They were very different men.

Absolutely. But they were nasty too. I mean I wouldn't say Jennie has those qualities in abundance either- not that she isn't nice or anything- and she didn't clash with him.
