Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    PHD etc: 2 votes

Also anybody who owns a tracksuit for anything other than sporting activities and/or reads a tabloid rag should not be allowed vote

I think people from Kerry should not be allowed to vote. They have after all, given us the Healy-Rae's...

We should pay more tax for better public services.
On the face of it yes but when the money is chronically mismanaged and spent on endless bloated administrators rather than front line staff (hello hse) that model falls apart.

We should pay more tax for better public services.

We already pay too much tax.

The problem is not on the income side, it's on the expenditure side.

Our state bodies and elected representatives spend too much on the wrong things.

The people who call for more taxes to pay "for better public services" are not progressive and enlightened, as they often claim to be. They are deluded.

The waste and overspend in the system is the real problem.

Female comedians generally aren't funny. That's why the gender balance in standup comedy (and TV panel shows and wherever else a comedian appears) is so skewed towards males.

Pick 5 male comedians at random and you will get material covering any and every subject.

Pick 5 female comedians and you will get 'funny' anecdotes about relationship problems, the biological clock and being a Mum.

Even though the government fvcked up the water charges I still think we should pay for water.

Purified, well piped water doesn't cost nothing.

And who currently pays for the water?

There's an awful lot of unfunny male comedians and there's a good many funny female ones. A lot of male comedians base their routine around d*ck jokes, drinking and football.

There will always be homeless people and we can't ever provide enough social housing for everyone in the country. Homeless people also die too, on the streets too, they're not immortal.

That’s a strange reading. I would say that WW III would have happened if most other presidents had been in office.

The relative popularity of women's sports in comparison to men's is not due to the structure of society, culture, "lack of encouragement" etc; but rather that women (generally) simply aren't as interested in sports as men (generally) are.

Grace Dyas isn't brave or a hero for revealing what she did about Michael Conlon. If he is as powerful as she claims, then it's a bit thick to jeopardise your career over a story which is about as juicy as a Rivita cracker.

Women compete at every sport at the level men do. Amateur/ professional/ internationally.

Women's sport does not get near as much funding as men do and have to work a lot harder to succeed.

Women's sport is just not as interesting to watch as men's, apart from the Tennis :D

The women's soccer world cup was boring as hell, women jockeys (99%) of them apart from 1 or 2 are appalling jockeys. Women's boxing is awful too.

If it was better or on a par to watch, there would be more interest in it and definitely more funding.

Makes a nice change from the 2 previous leaders who only got into politics because their fathers were TD’s & died and vacated seats, and the locals in each town simply voted for the dead men’s sons to replace them.

(Though my earlier post about Kenny being a decent Taoiseach still stands)

Brian Cowen’s only wage paying job before being elected a TD at age 23/24 was as a barman.
A fcuking barman ran our country (into the ground).

I would say they need to work less hard in general, as there are less women competing in many sports
