Looking at a CAAD 12. Comes with the Cannondale SLi crankset.

Would rather keep my ultegra 6800 crankset. Googling suggests I can get an adaptor but creaking maybe a big issue.

Assuming I go to a knowledgeable bike shop to get the work done is this really an issue?

Are their other ways of doing this?

I use the WMFG Spindle Shims and they creak like mad, occasionally they even squel in the heat. They got me out of a pinch though. Waiting for the bearings to die before putting in a one of their complete BB units, they are around €70 but a few club mates are using them to good success.

That's the kind of thing I'm reading online. Totally putting me off but getting a good deal on a decent spec

At first I'd strip off the cranks and grease the shims and contact points and that would keep the noise at bay for a few weeks but after a while I've learned to just live the noise. It's usually to bloody windy to hear anyway.

BB infinite do a solution that they say is creak free but the price makes it an 'investment' bottom bracket - https://www.bbinfinite.com/products/bb30-directfit-shimano

That one is standard bearings but you can find versions with angular contact or ceramic

I have one in my Felt for the last 2 seasons, bearings were starting to complain so I put another in last week, reckon it had about 15k done.

I used these with the BB that came in my supersix and worked no bother. On a different bike I got a converted BB and it does nothing but creak, put in by a bike shop too.

That one is handy, rubber mallet it into the existing BB.

http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=104211207 I have the cups for sale cheaper than new if you're looking to go down that road. They were on a used frame that I bought. I never used them but the seller said he never had trouble with creaking.

I have one of the Rotor 30-24 bb's and even with a load of copper grease it creaks like a banshee. Rebuilding my winter bike at the moment and looking forward to the peace

Am I mad to swap out a functioning (but noisy) BB on a Spesh Roubaix for a Wheels Mfg BB?

Soon as the winter bike is done (hopefully this week) I will be changing mine, have you got a link to that Wheels Mfg one?

Nope, spoke to Base2race mechanic and he recommended it. Planning on doing it this week. Not sure the old one is still usable though after its taken out. If it is I will keep it as a spare. I likey my silence

the rotor one was handy to install, I had the same guy in Base2race remove the Praxis one that was in it

Look at praxisworks BBs. They do a range of convertor bottom brackets. I got mine in greenbikes Newry. No creaking. Very solid.
