Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can’t we just agree that both Cuba and America have a hell of a lot wrong with them? Anyone who says they’d rather live in Cuba is lying though.

I'd probably take Cuba over Puerto Rico

To save having to scroll back through all the pages what's the URL ?

Also is it worth getting AnPost to stamp the cover with the date for future valuations?

No wonder millions of Irish people have emigrated to the likes of the US and the UK over the past century rather than to Cuba.

The French round of the 2017 World Rally Championship was the "Che Guevara Energy Drink Tour De Corse". We're in good company it would appear.

The Cubans never had the World Rally Championship... I wonder why?!?

I feel very smug now that I've got my set of stamps plus FDCs today

FDCs are new to me so a question to insiders: Can I use the FDCs as normal envelopes, that is, just writing the address and post them? Or are they just meant as collectables?

Stamp is franked when you buy the fdc, barely, in the corner. Just meant as collectables. Technically nothing stopping you using it as an envelope but not sure why you would.

Thanks. Why I would? There is a certain special who would appreciate the envelope with his name on it and getting it by normal postal service - as a surprise. I have several, so I wouldn't mind to actually use it.

Ah, excellent. Just a thought, you could send it to him in clear envelope/bag, so he could still see fdc but you could put address on sticker on the plastic so the fdc would be untouched.

Great idea. But he is not a collector. He likes these kinds of joke. So I will send it as "normal" envelope.
If he needs it as a collectors item, I still have plenty, being one of these capitalist-smug, left-orientated and Che-attracted liberal champagne-socialist - or whatever ;)

Why? It's an envelope with a proper stamp on it. Ok, it's pre-postmarked, kind of, but it's payed for. Serious question.

I'll ask in my local post office, but it's remote countryside, they usually don't know what's going on. Hence my question here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

It's not just a watercolour of the countryside though, it's a very obviously political work.

Can't name any off the top of my head but I am sure there has been other political stamps by An Post

Actually no I think I have some there has been a few on The Famine, The Rising, Michael Collins and to bring religion in Christmas ones also

Short term yes in the long term it will bounce back but will not do as well as some think it will become

He cogged it off someone else's photo. :P

well I hope Jim Fitzpatrick got a few quid out of it, he made zero from the original silhouette he created 60 years ago, and its probably one of the most recognisable motifs in the world.

Hehe damn, guess I should have gotten the sheet while i was in the GPO ;)

Wanted to wait till I got one of the first day covers, ah well win some lose some.

He didn't want it copyrighted originally as he wanted it to spread as far as possible.

About ten years ago he copyrighted it and assigned the copyright to a hospital in Cuba.

Anyway - my suggestion for An Post's next controversial stamp :p

    Tom-of-Finland-stampsheet.jpg

(Finland really did issue these - lots of complaints when they started arriving on letters in places like Russia)

    Scrap the cap!

yeah got a pair of sheets... unfortunately no idea about the singles (I had posed that question a few posts ago but got no response)

You would imagine if you buy 16 of them you would get a sheet as I don't think they come in roll format.

I recall the lady at An Post O'Connell st tearing out singles from a sheet when people were buying them.

Ernesto Lynch would be so proud.
I see the socialist party, Sinn Fein, raised 400k in the US recently. I wonder how much they raised on their trip to Cuba.
