I love giving 7 year olds a damn good thrashing on FIFA. If I could kick them in real life..I would.

Reminds me of this Simpsons episode with Homer winning the kids Nuclear Power Plant competition

Is it too late to sign all of Wigan? Even just for a couple of weeks?

Man Citys invincible dream ended against Liverpool
Their quadruple dream ended against Wigan
And their treble dream will die this coming Sunday :pac:

Aguero assaulted a fan? Will he be reprimanded in time for the cup final?

Didn't look like there was a whole lot in it, from what I saw. Which is a shame, it would be tremendous if he got a 2 game ban. (Don't care after that).

Bit of league cup history for you here. Swindon upset us in 1969. Every thing that could go wrong for us did according to Frank Mclintocks book. Alot of the team were struck down with flu in the run up to the game and the pitch was in poor shape due to some horse fair taking place the week before. Mclintock did admit that Swindon were far the better side in fairness.

More recently I went to Cardiff for the final in 06 or 07 and missed the ferry on the way back and got stuck in Fishguard for two days. Has to be the sh1ttest town in Britain or possibly Europe.

Then was the only Arsenal fan and hence the laughing stock of an English pub in the Canaries when I thought the trophy drought was coming to an end against Birmingham in 2011.

This Cup owes me, I'd be happy enough to collect on Sunday.

    So given a hypothetical choice...

We win the League Cup and Wenger stays for another two/three years.
    Or
We win nothing Sunday and Wenger goes end of the season.

Hypothetically of course, there's obviously no proven pattern of Wenger winning domestic cups and being handed new contracts...

Lose the cup and let him go. League cup and Europa League cup mean nothing to me, so I wouldn't see that as any justification for keeping the old man around.

Cups all the way for me. I will always want the club to do the best it can out of it's current situation regardless of how crappy it is and regardless of what I want to happen off field, otherwise I wouldn't have any interest in watching football ever again.

On the plus side I reckon he's gone in the summer regardless of what happens in the mean time.

As much I love to see the club win any of the 4 trophies available to it at the start of the season, normally the LC is lowest on the priority list. However, as needs must & all that, so... with no chance of winning the league, out of the FA Cup & unlikely to win the EL I'd love to see us win this, its a trophy at the end of the day & beats winning nothing*.

Anyway, if nothing else we'll be likely to end the season with more silverware than Liverpool or Spurs, in fact in our worst season in 20 years we would equal their respective silverware hauls for the last 10 years.... worth a giggle if nothing else.

    * I suspect we'll get well beaten mind, especially after Wigan did them last night.

The day I became an Arsenal fan. Not a glory hunter, I'd been keeping and eye on Arsenal as an 8 year old who was gradually discovering a love for football. Liverpool were almost unbeatable then, so when Arsenal won that day it confirmed them as my new team and Champagne Charlie Nicholas as the greatest player that ever lived.

And also the first time that Liverpool lost a game that Ian Rush had scored in.

That was some dive from Anderson. It's funny i seem to think of diving as part of the modern game.

A lot of fans think them losing to Wigan will be a blessing for us, but it could backfire. A lot of those players might be battered and bruised after that Wigan game, their egos taking a bit of a bashing. And we could be the target of that revenge. They are beatable and it wouldn't surprise me if we did them over, but I'm a little nervous with our defence and centre midfield that it could be a long day.

I want us to win but apart of me still think Wenger will stay on if he wins something, it's a double edge sword. If you offered me winning nothing and not getting top 4 and Wenger to leave, I take it anyday. I think for this club to move forward we need rid of this man, if it means we move forward then I take it over any cup right now. That's just how I feel.

Personally I think anybody wanting us to lose a cup final so theirs an increased possibility of the manager leaving needs their head examined.

For the greater good of the club. I'd rather enjoy the next few years under a competent manager, than one day in February winning a cup that's equivalent to a Charity shield.

I always want Arsenal winning no matter who is at the helm.

Do I want Wenger gone? Yes.

Do I want a few barren years to ensure that he goes? No!

Wanting the club to actually lose a cup final is a pretty good filter for whether your opinion on anything arsenal related is worth listening to.

Like Newcastle you mean?, Leeds or Villa perhaps,? Spurs, Liverpool maybe?

What are we counting as barren? We're now 14 years since we won the league. If cups are great then we had 10 barren years, the longest I can see for Liverpool is 6 years.
Even mentioning us with those **** clubs shows how far we've fallen tbh.

Different times. When were Villa a direct competitor? Was it '96 we beat them for 5th and the last UEFA Cup spot? How many times in the last 20 years have Leeds, Newcastle, Villa finished above us?
Never mind the change and timing of the money coming in. And that 2 of those teams ****ed themselves financially trying to "compete" while Villa have just dozed into their current situation.

I still don't understand your point. We had 10 years without a trophy, now 14 without a league win. What do those other teams have to do with anything? We should just be glad we're not them?

Easy answer. Granit look at my hair while I leisurely walk around the pitch passing the ball sideways Xhaka.
He must have videos of Wenger watching gay porn

Welbeck for me. Offers feck all and couldn't finish his dinner most days. (he'll probably score tonight now :D).
Xhaka is not far behind now but at the time I could understand why Wenger bought him, I couldn't with Welbeck..

Definitely Xhaka for me. Really thought he was going to be the proper smart DM we so badly need...but alas...

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,693 ✭✭✭emmetlego

I’d seen Xhaka play for Swiss a few times and he was the stand out player on the pitch for them most of the time. My other half has lived all across Europe through work and he was a fan of Swiss football team, and when Xhaka signed for us, he was over the moon. I had to agree, I thought he was a fab signing.

God how disappointed I’ve been in him. Even trying to convince myself after a decent game that he’s turned a corner for us. My point (and question for the podcast) is Wenger really that great player developer that the current bunch would have you believe? Or is he a busted flush at that too?

I mean, it’s not as if Gibbs, Ox, Theo etc are setting the world alight since they left. Is he just bad at picking players to sign?

I read Ray Parlours book over the last couple days, great book would definitely recommend.
Worst thing about reading such books is that it makes me extremely sad reading about the players and proper comradery that was in the side back then, amazing.

Not sure any team has such a spirit these days though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,435 ✭✭✭wandatowell

    starting 11 for tonight
    Ospina
    Chambers Mertesacker Kolasinac
    Nelson Wilshere Elneny Maitland-Niles
    Reine-Adelaide Mkhitaryan
    Welbeck

    The Jeff is on loan?

Its Iwobi instead of Jeff starting

Surprised Bellerin is starting, thought Chambers would have been RB
