O Neill must be under some serious pressure here knowing this could be his last game

    Oh wait

This is just a comment for comments sake. Offers absolutely nothing. It's not even controversial or anything.

What does he care? He's already been through the gauntlet of the master tactician that is John Delaney and got his contract extension.

Delaney popped up some reality crap about Nadia ford my gf had on last night. Bizarre

These lads in the studio are so dour. Every one of them. Bill was excitable about the match. I think Ireland are doing alright, but I know they'll just be moaning like we're 4-0 down and bottom of the group. Can you not even have someone to come on and inject a small bit of positivity into proceedings. Richie could make winning the world cup sound like a negative.

Will a draw do for Wales as things stand?

Like you can hate MON - but his plan is working so far.
What plan is that? Get a draw?

Think we might have already seen the best of Wales (which doesn't mean they can't win), hard to see them getting much better than the early spell they had

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,579 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

I don't know what people are complaining about here.

I don't like MON's tactics but he's got to half time 0-0 in an away match, weather the Welsh bright start, Joe Allen gone off and silenced the partisan crowd and got more into the game as the half wore on.

So I think we should be happy enough so far, very much in this and plenty to play for in the 2nd half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,474 ✭✭✭✭Zeek12

True, Wales look quite ordinary. But it's really hard to see where an Irish goal can come from based on that 45 mins. We haven't played at all.

Hoolahan to come on hopefully and create something - if the manager trusts him. And not just for 10 or 12 mins at the end!!

Otherwise this looks like a real stalemate....and we're out

MON or LVG in disguise, me luv cookies about as much as they luv Hoof ball.

LVG has been accused of a lot of things, but that’s the first time I’ve seen him accused of hoof ball.

Craig Bellamy whining on Sky about Wales not getting the softest penalty you would have ever seen.

I get that things have apparently been going to plan from O'Neil's point of view but that basically means he has sacrificed 45 minutes in a must win game. Every minute that ticks by the plan looks worse and worse. The idea that Ireland are about to engage phase 2 of some kind of master plan is laughable to me. A master plan to minimise our scoring opportunities.

Craig Bellamy, the greatest footballer Craig Bellamy has ever seen, narcissistic twit. A veteran of countless moral victories with City and Liverpool throughout his not so illustrious career.

If we are going to have a chance of winning, the later we score the better imo. Keep it tight till 70 mins or so and then go for it.

No take pressure - let them have ball

Then a short press and win from a set piece 0-1

True, but he's horribly injury prone, we don't have enough quality in the side to perform consistently. We look beaten before kick off in big games, no belief.
    What game are you watching?

Fascinating 45 minutes ahead for the management too. MON will either have his tactics vindicated or he will be pilloried. Coleman will continue to be the darling of the Welsh support or be left with egg on his face.

O'Neill is one of the best paid managers in the international game. International football is full of managers managing countries you would think they would never touch.

If the money was right, and we actually had a proper football association that could identify and target potential options, we could attract people much better than the current version of O'Neill IMO.

Love duffy as a defender but he's desperate with the ball at his feet.

    I hate our game plan

Try to skank a goal somehow. Why not just try play ball. With your best players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,136 ✭✭✭✭Rayne Wooney

Beyond stating the obvious we need to take risks in this half, I’d rather lose 2-0 than draw 0-0 at this stage

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,735 ✭✭✭Vincent Vega

9 games and only 3 goals scored by half time!
Probably the two worst teams conceding, 2 against Lichtenstein and 1 against Kosovo.
    Quiet night in european football.

I think O'Neill would be happy going into the last 10 mins at 0-0 and push for it then.

Only team in the world who won't play their best player cos he's too good for the rest of the team.

He plays too much ball . Doesn't really suit our style of playing

If that doesn't work out and we finish 3rd in the group then there will be plenty of questions over MON's tactics or lack of them.

+1. I don't really get the lauding of this supposed plan. Wales are bad - they're not World or European champions they are basically us only in red. There's no glory in holding them scoreless

It’s fūcking boring at this stage.

And will continue to get it, like you said its boring that people at this stage still think hes a good player because of the huff and puff

Liam Brady got even worse treatment from Jack Charlton, but at least that side were all capable players.

Cyrus Christie is a level below this. He's actively breaking up our attacks. It would be so much different if it was Coleman out there on the overlap of Brady.
