Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I never said you weren't. You suggested that no self respecting Irish person could though so quite clearly you aren't so tolerant to me wanting them to in today, based on their performance on the day.

No, and I won't think otherwise either. Don't like it at all. Our media outlets sicken me jumping on their bandwagon all the time too.

    Switzerland vs Iceland teams:
Switzerland XI: Sommer; Mbabu, Akanji, Schar, Rodriguez; Xhaka, Zakaria; Embolo, Shaqiri, Zuber; Seferovic.

Iceland XI: Halldorsson; Saevarsson, R.Sigurdsson, Ingason, Skulason; Gislason, G.Sigurdsson, Palsson, Bjarnason; Sigurdarsson, Bodvarsson.

Fancy the Swiss to edge it. Brian Kerr on commentary.

Anyone else liking the concept of the nation's league. Apart from Ireland's result and the confusion with the tournament and possibly the outcomes of the system.

Im all for seeing small countries playing against similar standard teams rather than being the whipping boys.

I enjoy them, i wish there was a trophy for every league mind not just the group a winners
I think its a really good idea having the likes of San Marino/Faroe Islands playing each other rather than Portugal/Spain putting 8 past them

Not trying to be. They're a rival nation and everything in this modern age doesn't have to be hand holding and hugs, rivalry is allowed.

Plus, I've seen their fans in action and anyone that also did would feel the same. They completely and utterly despise the very core of us and everything about us.

The Welsh fans can be utter knobs. The amount of nonsense i saw on fb about how they righted a wrong and got justice
    They make me cringe
They go from normal people to idiots once sports become involved.
I think its a small country syndrome surrounded by more famous countries in Scotland/Ireland/England

Superb strike from Zuber to put the Swiss in front. I like the look of this Swiss side.

Update: Zakaria makes it 2-0 from close range. Looks a great prospect.

3-0 to the Swiss. Looks like an O.G from Shaqiri's cross. Swiss making a statement in this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

It was an unreal ball by Shaqiri. Some pace and flight on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Lovely fourth goal there too. Seferovic finishes it off.

Update: 5-0 now. Ajeti from close range. Swiss really impressive.

I love them but Iceland have played like a Luxembourg or Andorra here.
5 down & it could be more.

6-0! Swashbucking Swiss. Mehmedi from a Zakaria cross. Been impressed with Zakaria's performance, though a lot of Swiss players have done well.

Good performance by the Swiss. But Iceland were p*ss poor. As Winston Wolf might say; let's not start sucking each other's lollipops.

A few clices from the last few years thrown out the window this evening:

Iceland - Hard to break down

Swiss - Effective but don't score enough

True. Next month they're away to Belgium which will give us a better idea of how good they are. Very curious to see how that game pans out.

New coach only in the door a month and gets absolutely battered in his first game. Could be a rough few months for Iceland.

    Teams for England vs Spain:
England XI: Pickford, Maguire, Stones, Gomez, Trippier, Henderson, Dele, Lingard, Shaw, Kane, Rashford.

Spain XI: De Gea; Carvajal, Nacho, Ramos, Alonso; Busquets, Saul, Thiago; Isco, Iago Aspas, Rodrigo.

Gomez and Shaw starting for England is a surprise.

Be nice to see Aspas produce a good performance on his return to England.

    What?!!

Not in football terms, but in general terms they are the least known from the British isles around the world
Ive never met a welsh person who hasnt tried & failed to big up how amazing the welsh sports fans are and nobody has the passion they have for there country
Like ive said ive nothing against them until sports come up then the wreck my head

I wouldn't give them a cat in hell's chance in that game. Belgium looked decent the other night (with the caveat, again, that Scotland were woeful).

Hazard's looking unplayable at times so Belgium have to be favourites, but the Swiss don't tend to get blown away by the big sides. They've managed draws with Spain and Brazil this year. I think they can make it competitive.

Gomez was entirely predicable, he was always pencilled in for this game.

Oops; I thought you were talking about Iceland when you made the post I replied to earlier. As the hip young bros and hos might say; my bad.

I'm assuming there would be no game on at 2 at all if it wasn't for tv...

There is a game at 2pm each match day Saturday and Sunday so it UEFA trying to maximise viewers on tv

Shaw - Rashford - goal (obviously none of that would have been possible without Henderson winning the ball)

    Better call Saul! 1-1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,858 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

Better call Saul when you go a goal down, evidently...

Haha, sublime to the ridiculous for Shaw inside 1 minute

Spain equaliser, Shaw at fault. Nothing from Tyler and Neville about that though.

I'm assuming it's to avoid a colour clash with England's navy blue shorts.

    2-1 Spain.

I'd have thought as much but it's not really a clash considering the other colours.
Letter of the law over spirit of the law sorta stuff. :o
