probably be attacked from the doomsday merchants but game over Dingle

That's the eye of the storm, it'll kick up again soon enough.

Man who opened his electrical shop today in Cork rings Sean O'Rourke to complain about how he can see lots of people driving around in the storm.

    Hypocrite much?
The lad who opened his paper shop was unlucky .... it blew away.

=);104987972"]I'd say you can expect a much stronger updraft through the chimney during storm. But I wouldn't expect any problems.

If you have a boiler ran off your fire then don't lite it as a power outage with cause your circulation pump to stop pumping and could cause leakage.

Biggest gusts to hit West Limerick so far right now. Huge trees swaying all over the place.

Thanks for the update - any news on the storm?

I recall the video of the Dundrum town centre flooding in 2012 (?) showing one or two layers of sandbags about 300mm high at the doors, and the water pouring in at about 1200m.

    24 October 2011 you mean?

Latest powercheck for those who can't see it...
Lights flickering in Portlaoise, I have UPS backing for the house and my computers for a few hours and the cars are fully charged.

First fatality. :( Tree fell on a car in Waterford. Hope we get no more ghouls on this thread saying that it's not a "real" storm.

    RIP.

Gerry Murphy was saying on RTÉ around half an hour ago that he expects west Kerry to be in the 'eye' of the storm so to speak around now, winds to abate for a while and pick up again.

A gust hit our house here in Kerry around 11:30 and it was easily over 100mph, trees down all over and reports of massive damage to older buildings and farm sheds.

As an aside - ESB's Powercheck map service has failed because they have exceeded their Google Maps API rate limit.

    Citibank Dublin :D

Apparently told staff to stay in until at least 5pm to get the storm passed (and not be hindered by the somehow expected flooding of their building).

They were actually advised to leave before 12 but when they chose to stay in, not to venture outside until the storm passes.

Conor Faulkner giving it large about the storm and how dangerous it is on the news yet still has his staff working, madness.
