    And for anyone that wakes in the morning and thinks "that's not so bad", it'll be much worse by the time you cycle home

    That's by no means definite - they said after the 6pm news that there is a chance they may upgrade the rest of the country from orange to red, so keep an eye on the met.ie site for details - but it is not certain.

    Nothing is certain. It be ok in the morning it's the evening time that could be a problem for dublin.

    Models are pushing further east so hopefully it could go way further east.
    Might have to have a pub lock in:)

    "This evening Met Eireann warned that is a possibility they may yet issue a red weather warning for all counties tomorrow as they continue to monitor the Hurricane."

    Check the live feeds, independent website, rte or even boards weather forum.

    OK, so this:

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/this-is-not-the-remnants-of-a-hurricane-this-is-a-hurricane-all-counties-may-have-red-weather-warning-issued-tonight-36228710.html

    Obviously people's circumstances will vary. As I posted before, I have found it perfectly safe to commute in and out of Dublin city centre with forecasted winds gusts of over 100kph.

    ...but I now live in Wicklow so I'll be hiding under the table with the iodine, bottled water and tins of beans. :pac:

    25,000 homes without power as Storm Barney lashes country
    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/25-000-homes-without-power-as-storm-barney-lashes-country-1.2433190

    "Met Éireann issued a Status Orange wind warning and ferry sailings and flights have been cancelled due to the storm. The warning was put in place until late on Tuesday and affects counties Dublin, Wicklow, Galway, Clare, Kerry and Limerick, where gusts of 100-125km/h are expected and wind speeds are predicted to reach 75km/h."

    And yet...

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=97769944&postcount=95

    This is the strongest storm ever recorded this far East. Of course, wind speed will be variable across the country, but it’s the gusts that are totally unpredictable. I do a lot of sailing and have seen boats knocked flat by a gust, while others near them of the same class and on the same tack, were not. They are that unpredictable.

    Speaking from experience...Gusts are extremely dangerous when cycling in built up areas as you could be cycling along and have wind funneled along a street, or in between buildings and get hit side on with no warning. Last year I got hit by one that came down from the Beacon towards the LUAS. I was nearly lifted off the road and almost into the kerb. That was on a yellow wind warning!

    All counties have just been updated to red. I'll be working from home myself but anyone who can't do that, don't cycle. It's as idiotic as the people who are holding up in their basements with a shotgun and beans.

    Just a different kind of stupid.

    Source?

    Met.ie is showing that they've DOWNGRADED the warnings from Red/Orange to Orange/Yellow - unless the website is in the middle of an update;

    https://www.met.ie/nationalwarnings/default.asp

    If you're basing it on this article, the detail does not support the headline;

    Where does it say all counties red, I just checked the 'Status Red' warning on met.ie and it's still saying 8 counties?

    Status red wind warning extended across the country

    Rte

    RTE are saying their source is met.ie, it would be nice if met.ie updated their website.

    EDIT: They mistakenly removed the Red warning and replaced it with an orange one but they've corrected it now.

    Lads and lasses, don't be stupid.
    To be fair to MEt Eireann they don't say this sort of thing too often.
    Listen to them and take heed.
    Live is short enough anyway, don't cut it shorter doing something the experts say is life-threateningly dangerous tomorrow....

    They removed the Red warning for a while, I assume by mistake while updating to red warning everywhere.

    I think it must be the configuration of the road and buildings there. There is often an intensely strong wind howling down from the Beacon. I've had to walk across that t-junction at the bottom of the hill beside the Luas track a few times while hauling a trailer or using the cargo bike in the last few years, and there were no orange or red warnings on those days.

    Ex-Hurricane Ophelia is forecast to track directly over Ireland during daytime Monday. Violent and destructive gusts are forecast with all areas at risk and in particular the southwest and south in the morning, and eastern counties in the afternoon.

    Sounds as if eastern counties getting the worst by the afternoon. So, as said already, even if ok in the morning, probably very risky on the return journey, unless that journey is still in the morning.
