    Hello all,

Soon my NCT is due and the timing belt will need to be replaced again (it was done 5 years ago).
Could I please ask you for a recommendation of a good mechanic who doesn't charge too much? I know the work itself is a big job, but 5 years ago when I enquired prices were between 300 and 500 euro, which is a big difference.
Ideally I'm looking for a mechanic in Trim co. Meath or surrounding areas. I can also go to Dublin (on a Saturday). The job takes a long time, a good idea could be being close to shops or shopping centre or a cinema, where I can kill the time in the meantime :) I won't have anyone accompanying me unfortunately.
    Thank you.

I'd ring the main dealers and find out what they charge.
You'd be surprised that is wont be much more than an indy .
I know VW were doing them (for vws) for 450

I use Don Baker in Enfield for the past few years, he specialises in Alfa Romeo so I'm sure he would also take care of a Fiat 500. 086 1708471. Always found him to be quite reasonable. He's a bit out of the way but should have a car you can borrow while the work is being done, worth trying him for a price anyway.

A 1.2 litre 8v FIRE engine cambelt is one of the simpler ones to do.
If a mechaninc has done a number Punto cambelt changes they should be able to do the cambelt change on a 1.2 litre FIAT 500.

Hard to believe the "new" 500 is out long enough for some cars to be due their second timing belt. They've aged well.

Got my fiat 500 done in an authorised Fiat garage in Cork during August this year.

Cost for timing belt kit including water pump and its annual service was €550 total.

Timing belt is one of those jobs i prefer to get done at dealer/service centre

My car is the first Fiat 500 in Ireland. I brought it from Italy in December 2007 when in Ireland wasn't released yet.

I've been there. I think they're very accurate, but... for new tyres and service I was charged 700 euro!

Second Don Baker. Does all the work on my alfas and have never had a problem. Very reasonable for work as well.
Always has some more interesting stuff there as well for work

It has happened that my car failed on the handbrake, there is a 60% imbalance. Do you have any idea of how much more or less it should cost to repair it? Thank you.
