The FA can't do anything as the ref dealt with it at the time. It's another nonsense rule that needs changing. Although, maybe VAR may reduce the amount of these tackles that don't get the correct punishment in future

I do think they should be able to upgrade yellows, that tackle should have been a red. That's always been a nonsense.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

They can review anything that the ref has dealt with if they view it as violent conduct I think.. there was definitely a rule change a couple of years ago

Agreed. Utterly ridiculous rule. They can retrospectively downgrade a red card to a yellow, or even rescind it altogether. No reason they couldn't do the reverse. Take the Bennett challenge today. If that yellow is upgraded to a straight red he'd miss three games instead of just the one for two yellow cards.

I know what it means in cricket. I presume you mean players being physical as much as they can get away with? Which is not like cricket.

Cricket?? why are your a mod in a soccer form?

I'm not. And if we did a straw poll I don't think too many will have heard of sledge in the context you use. But why not just agree to disagree and have a nice pint and relax. That's what I'm doing.

Sledging is verbal abusing a player in cricket.. trying to rile them up and throw them off their game, he has said that he never heard of the use of the word sledging as a means of hacking a player in football.. tbf not many would

I've never heard it used in football. It is predominantly a cricketing term, which you nailed there.

I thought it was a Gaelic term tbh.

    Exactly,rough and dirty tackle'.

So I guessed right despite knowing nothing about GAA, excellent, cheers! I'll celebrate with another beer.

    Exactly,rough and dirty tackle'.

    Huh?

Sledging that I knew of was the verbal smack talk a player would have with the person marking him. Which appears to be the same as its use in cricket so not sure what you mean.

Using it the way you claim is completely new.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,592 ✭✭✭✭Trigger

    Exactly,rough and dirty tackle'.

Not in GAA either, in GAA sledging is the same as in Cricket.. get dogs abuse..

Wasn’t there something a couple of years ago that a young lad commit suicide cause of it..

Fair enough, in my group it means dirty and unnecessary tackles.I don't follow cricket what so ever.

In any context or any sport sledging is giving verbal abuse with the intention of putting your opponent off or causing them to react and get sent off.

    Look it up.

Milwall or Rochdale v Tottenham or Newport.
    Brighton v Coventry

Not a decent looking tie in there. A potential Rochdale/Spurs game would be the most interesting if it came to pass.

So many ostensibly one-sided games (all bar West Brom Southampton you'd say) automatically gets me thinking 'Acca'. But there's always one joker in the pack...

I'd love if they didn't have a draw each round and from the third round on you knew your route to the final.

I think it was some youngfella's brother who committed suicide, then the clown marking him asks "how's it hangin" at the start of a game.

Approx 60 attendance at Wembley delighted for Newport getting a decent pay day for their efforts 900thousand pounds should be enough for them to thrive with a safety net .

Coys a few early home goals to settle things and no new injuries ahead of the nld

FA cup is back this weekend, Chelsea v Hull is on TV tonight, 8 pm kick off.

Given we've Barca on Tuesday at the Bridge, I think there'll be 8+ changes to the usual XI tonight.

Hull themselves will have a bit of a defensive crisis tonight, their back line is made up of Chelsea loanees, Hector, Aina and Tomori, combined theyve played about 80 games for Hull this season.

Pardew has 4 natural centre backs in defence for West Brom today.

They should try taken big Sam on loan to sort that mess there.

    Definitely not fixed.

Considering Michael Owen played a part in the draw - and struggled first to untie the knot and then again to get the balls out of the bag I'd say it just looks like it was fixed.

Then again maybe he was trying not to burn his hands.

I know they didn't score in the end, but that Spurs move showed how incredibly composed top-level players are on the ball around the box. When every instinct in their bodies must be screaming at them to blast the ball at the goal, they're selling dummies, looking to square the ball...

Spurs with a late penalty to get them out of jail. That's never happened before.

Fair play Rochdale. Almost robbed by Alli again but a perfect result really, an extra game in Spurs tight schedule.....

The Spurs "penalty" was no more a penalty than the Rochdale claim earlier in the half. One was given, one wasn't. No surprise, given that Madley was the ref.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,019 ✭✭✭davycc

Delighted for Rochdale they definitely deserved a replay at Wembley, there manager and chairman came across on BBC as likable humble lads and they need ever penny in there relegation battle.

Delighted with moura too probably my man of the match, delighted with alli too did the simple things right and there was no embarrassing diving like the pool game.
Kane slotted his goal well too.
    Decent viewing for the"neutrals"

The dive was less embarrassing, but it was against Rochdale so extra points for that.
