Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Part of me would think it would be something of a hollow victory if we won, the staging is definitely what got us through in the semi final, if it had just been Ryan on his own, we wouldn’t have gotten through.

Are the exact results of the semi finals available anywhere?

I agree it would be a little hollow but its the nature of the beast. In a competition where many of the voters hear a song once, anything that lifts it out of the ordinary makes it stick in people's minds, whether it be a gimmick, staging or an unusual genre. We've played the Eurovision game badly in recent years with bland by-the-numbers entries and even if the song falls into that category this year, somebody had a lightbulb moment and the great bunch of lads in China have played right into our hands.

One key indicator is that the price was about 66/1 just after the cull of SF1, so to move so quickly overnight from that to into 9/1 or so could be due to the social media eu queens outrage at the China powerhouse.

There could be a boycott of importing any chinese goods, but we'd be left with just pitchforks, moonshine and strawbales.

The China thing probably didn't do any harm, but the odds started moving when the draw was released. It's as perfect a draw as we could have possibly hoped for.

What do you good people think of the UK entry?

Seems kinda bland to me, you'd think in a country of over 60 million that they would be able to come up with a good song.

True but the uk dont really care that much anymore I wouldnt think as they are guaranteed to be in the finals every year so can throw any kind of rubbish into the competition

Draw sequence probably assisted it greatly also, but every media house and newspaper has ran with the China angle.

It isn't a great song it could well finish in bottom couple of places.

Tbh it wasn't even the best song in the UK final, asanda - legends could have done better but her vocals were a bit dodgy live so they went for SuRie.

Given where we stood on Tuesday afternoon; Top 10 would be unbelievable, Top 5 would be crazy, winning would be unthinkable

Hopefully sense will previal, and the Flatlanders will win it, with their 100/1 (5pl) tune, featuring real guitars.

Still can't believe FYR Maca didn't qualify, then again they made a mess of live performance, even the backing singers were out of sync.
The nice Swiss lady gave it a good whack at the live performance, but even that wasn't enough sadly.

Germany could be the main competition for 5th place.

It would make a mockery of the contest if we win this. No way is that song top 10 let alone top 3.

*In your opinion. I think its quite good and catchy compared to some of the songs and actually has thought put into it.

It obviously is if the betting is leaning towards it. Just because you decide it isn't, doesn't mean it isn't.

Information leaked about Tuesday night that showed how well Ireland did in the vote that has caused the increase in interest.

The betting also had it around 250/1 right before the semi-final.
The fact that it's now down to 7/1 is hype-r-bollox-bandwagon-ology.

Exactly. No way you can move from 250/1 to 7/1 on the performance alone. It's clearly politics

No more hollow than Austria's win in 2014 or Sweden's in 2015 really ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Either way, I'd take it :pac:

I think it sums up modern mainstream music. A good looking young fella with just a guitar singing a sob song thats a modern trend that is so popular, it's what people like

This Eastern European thing is a myth.

    Last few winners have been:

    2017 Portugal
    2016 Ukraine
    2015 Sweden
    2014 Austria
    2013 Denmark
    2012 Sweden
    2011 Azerbaijan
    2010 Germany

So last 8 years have seen only 2 East European countries win.

It nearly always come down to the song and the performance.

Um, no, it's not a myth. The EBU have changed the voting significantly to help alter the affects of the Eastern European bloc voting, but it's still there, just much less noticeable nowadays. Plus the fact that the West have significantly upped their game now we're playing on an almost even playing field.

Rybak def phoned in the semi. Much more impressive tonight for the juries.

    Portugal painful

I think he’s at it, you can buy tickets to it but it’s not shown live on TV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭Zhane

I hope I am proven wrong here, but I kind of agree that the betting odds area bit bandwagonary.

The China thing is buying exposure but I don't think the song has the legs to go up against a few other songs.

I hope we are at least on the left hand side with it though. top 10 is a dream. Top 5 I would love to be a fly on the wall in the RTE MDs office watching her sweat. :D

Also...can we put a roof on the Aviva to host it?

There are a few streams from the press room you can listen to, most of the main Eurovision blogs have one.
Australia sounded awful vocally, which is a shame as its one of the better songs. Finland up now.
