Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Journalist killed by car bomb in Malta!

Not quite the same as the Veronica Gurerin case, in that this poor journalist was highlighting government corruption, whereas Veronica was tackling drugs barons, but still it reminds me of that case. Lone female Journo in car 'taken out' by her enemies/ those who wanted her silenced.

Malta of all places, who'd of thought that kind of carry on would happen there, truly shocking.

Just posted this on Facebook -

I have to say this has probably been the saddest day in Malta for me to date. Messaged my siblings back home in Ireland after hearing the news and could only be reminded of Veronica Guerin. What happened yesterday in Malta was utterly shameful. The thought of freedom of speech not existing is despicable. Someone who was doing her job, doing a world of good, exposing the utterly insane level of corruption gets taken away like that… What a disgusting country you people have.
“There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate.” – Daphne Caruana Galizia

It's absolute f*cking disgusting. It's almost paid for and endorsed by the state and Joseph Muscat. ****ing ridiculous.

What a corrupt country. How to expose yourself. Areseholes

Did you know the nearest island to Malta is Sicily?

Saw this alright. Was kinda blown away by how blatant it was. Surprised it hasn't gotten more coverage tbh!

    Incredible,
    Disgusting.

Yeah, the Veronica guerin reference will be useful, to a degree, for some in Ireland, but that's about it.
    Not particularly appropriate however.

Anyway, incredible story, sad and dispiriting.

You can read Galizia's blog here where she detailed the corruption that she was uncovering: https://daphnecaruanagalizia.com/

Separately, a Maltese Police Officer has been suspended after celebrating the death of Daphne Caruana Galizia on Facebook:

Gozo is closer to Malta than Sicily although Gozo is also part of Malta.

Shocking event, receiving subdued coverage. Part of the drip drip drip of current events that happen here and there but consistently throughout the planet (the savagery of the police in Catalonia for example) that reinforces the feeling in me that things are not as they may seem, that the veneer of democracy and civilisation is very thin indeed, that the media functions as propaganda machines for the status quo rather than as a force for investigation, balance and societal protection, that in essence deep down we are ruled and manipulated by a cruel cabal of rich and powerful people who really do not give one flying fcuk about the masses. But call me mad...

I am sorry for this brave, brave lady and for her family.

There have been five car bombs in the last year and half in Malta.

I think we might have a potential motive-a major revelation on tax havens for the super rich just dropped. I wonder if certain Maltese officials will show up?
