Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I think the most important conclusion that comes out of this stupid thread is how few people are able to follow simple instructions.

    Doesn't have the same ring as 5ft 1 and 3/4 😀

Ask me again in a year or 2 and I might have lost a few mm

And I can promise you most of you are over-estimating! I'd elaborate further but I'm too tired and going to bed.

At school we were always measured in ft and inches, and yet had 30cm rulers and metre sticks about the place.

    They fcuked our minds.

169-170 cm, hate my height. Put it down to insufficient protein intake during childhood and adolescence (due to low income and parental ignorance) combined with slightly inferior genes. Average height has grown enormously in this country over the last 2 generations. I'm extremely jealous of this generation for whom getting a hot lunch with meat for their school lunch is not considered an enormous treat. I look at my parents and my Mam is about average height for women her age and my dad is about an inch shorter than average for men of his generation, yet I'm about 4 to 4.5 inches shorter than average for my peers and 6 inches shorter than many. I was way shorter than other people when I was in college and hated it, used to be utterly furious about it sometimes actually because I had other stuff going on in my mind I was trying to process without constantly feeling inferior over something I could never change.

With better nutrition, healthcare and greater knowledge of general good health any male under 6ft will be short within 15 years.

I'm not looking forward to shrinking as I age and ending up 5'5 in the 2060s/70s when young people are 8 inches taller on average and I'm like Old Biff Tannen walking around

Dafuq? Call me old fashioned, but height and weiner length just look weird when expressed in metric units.

    1.7 metres.

Disproportionately long legs though, and size ten clown feet, so I have all the problems of a tall person when on public transport, RyanAir flights, etc.

I seen a tv program where a guy had his legs broken in order to add 2cm to his height. He was 5'8", short yes, but not incredibly. An ok height for a man is 5'10", so he nearly made it, ffs no need to get your legs surgically broken to grow an inch.

Men do overestimate their height also. Seems to be a sensitive issue or the male equivalent of a muffin top or fat arse for women.

Glad to see I'm in the average height range. On the topic of younger generations being taller. There's an 18 month old next door who is almost 3 feet tall. Same height as some of the 3 year olds around here. There's a 2 year old across the street about the same height.

    They're gonna be giants.

My ma told me about a guy that lived in her town in the late 50s with size 14 feet and he could not get shoes to fit him. He had three options:

    A) Get a cobbler to make shoes
    B) Dont wear shoes
    C) Go to hospital and get them to chop your toes off so you can wear size 11

Bizzarely C prevailed, I **** you not. Stone mad!!

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

192cm, 15 stone. Taller than most people I come across. I was always in the top 2 tallest kids in my year at school. I used to dislike my height for that fact but as an adult, women find it sexy so I embrace it.

Any other than imperial units for height and weight are completely meaningless to me.

5'9 which is fairly tall for a woman. Never felt that tall though because there were quite a few girls in my class at school taller than me. I like my height but getting a good length in jeans can be annoying and i also had a problem when I was bridesmaid before because the standard length of the dress the bride originally wanted wasn't long enough :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,365 ✭✭✭✭rossie1977

160cm. Surprised how tall boardsies are.

There wouldn't be exaggerating on the internet..

Nearly 50% of the poll are over 5'11 which includes men and women. In reality it's less than 25% of men in this country taller than 5'11 and only 5% of women are above 175cm

I'm 172 cm tall, male, and yes, I've heard all the small man remarks before so don't bother
I hear they can be obsessed with the size of their polls?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,354 ✭✭✭✭endacl

I'm one and a third fathoms deep, FWIW.

Edit: Sorry. Forgot the 'no imperial units' bit, OP.
I'm 5.98684e+20 parsecs tall in me socks.
