Questions about power socket and switch placement in kitchens.

I'm planning out my kitchen and am looking into switch and socket placement. What distance range should hob and oven switches be from the appliances? I presume it's not a good idea to place the hob switch directly behind/above the hob. Are there regulations in relation to power sockets near sinks?
