My OH still says shaper. But I actually had never heard the phrase before meeting him despite us being from neighbouring counties.

"He had a good bit of jizz about him".

Meaning a person having a bit of spark/liveliness about them.

It is something I have only ever heard from older people (over 70). Unfortunately it was my grandparent who I first heard it from, and I quickly changed the subject. And subsequently heard Vincent Browne on TV3 say it, which I found absolutely hilarious. And then from working around older people.

It was without doubt a common turn of phrase back in the day. But now it has a very different exact meaning. :D

"He had a good bit of jizz about him".

My dad says the same thing. He's 80. I don't want to have that awkward conversation.

'Gay' in the sense of bright, cheery.

"We've turned the corner" very recent and may not count is it was only really used by government ministers.

    "Getting a shift"

My parents' generation had some wonderful expressions which you hear only rarely now...

"A bit of a want..." (Referring to an unspecified mild learning disability - or just someone who makes weird choices or decisions, often followed by "...God love him.")
"A bit of a consequence" (describing someone who is a full of themselves)
"Like a snot on a bramble" (describing a precarious position.)
