In the photo below there are small metal parts attached to the central chain ring which I have indicated with a yellow arrow.
I'm not sure what these are for, but having them on this side, does this indicate the chain ring is on the correct or the incorrect (i.e. opposite) way around?

    I don't see a photo either.
If I quote the OP to get the direct link [ https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=431196 ]then I get a message "Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator"

That's odd. I see it both in my original post and the in the quote by benneca1.
I'm sure the ring is incorrect now in any case.

    It’s not even a chainring.

Definitely upside down. Here’s how you fix it.

    1 Remove chainring.
    2. Rotate counterclockwise 180 degrees (notclockwise)
    3. Reinstall.

If that fails, then try flipping it vertically, followed by horizontally.

I think it must be Windows (or perhaps browser) issue. I checked this thread using another PC which has a more recent Windows version and I can't see the image on this PC.

Based on the description (and no photo), the small metal objects are lift-pins, and are placed to catch on the edge of the chain links during smaller-to-bigger-ring shifting, and so the working side of the pins should face the frame of the bike.

Chainring is grand. Bike is back to front.

No, by the fact that the ramp, which is supposed to slide the chain in and out the granny gear, is facing outwards...

Take a look here, it is pictured installed the other way around:
