Listened to this over the last week.

I won't post spoilers as people may look to check it out.

The New Yorker describes it as follows:
"The podcast begins with an autopsy report: an Orange County assistant district attorney reading a description of stab wounds from a homicide in the summer of 2016. We don’t learn the identity of the victim or the assailant. Then we go back two years, to 2014, to the story of a successful Newport Beach interior designer, Debra Newell, who is fifty-nine and divorced; John Meehan, a handsome, seemingly perfect man she meets online; and Debra’s grown children, who mistrust him. "

Overall the story is gripping, and I can see why it is so popular.

Few complaints, the ads are ridiculous and very inappropriate. On a more subjective level, I found the story a bit disjointed at times, and sometimes things are repeated which we've already heard.

I'm not as into True crime as some of the people on this forum so I'll defer to their judgement. The only other true crime podcast I've listened to was Serial S1, which was enthralling but frustrating in terms of its indecisiveness, loose ends, and reluctance to be conclusive. In fairness to Dirty John, it has none of these faults - the story is well paced and the ending is conclusive.

Yeah, there's been quite a few people - myself included - posting positive reviews in the recent listening thread.

It's definitely one the most gripping and well produced true crime pods out there. Highly recommended.

Though, I completely concur about the intrusive and crass - given the subject matter - ads. I could have done without those, that's for sure. But they wouldn't be enough to stop me giving a hearty thumbs up to the show.
