    Hey all

Anyone got any idea how it works for advertising in news papers ?
Can you do once off or have to do multiple entries.
Any advice on how to go about it would be much appreciated..
I am probably most interested in the likes of the kilkenny advertiser , would anyone know what kind of costs are involved. Im only a one man company in construction sector.
    Thanks.

Normally you'd simply be looking for the rate card for the publication you're interested in and you'd be able to figure out what they charge (same for radio and print media there). Normally they're pretty easy to find, for national or local papers, given they're keen to earn advertising revenue (e.g. here's the rate card for The Irish Times).

Is the Kilkenny Advertiser still trading?

Quick Google to grab the card for you suggests not, but maybe they're just not big into the online side of the offering and need to do some work on their branded results.

In their case if they are trading, check out the contact information provided in/near the classified section(s). Again, once you get through to them they should be keen to help you on your specific needs (and you can probably get a good ballpark on costs by comparing to similar publications who make rate cards easier to access).

They are normally more than happy to sell you a one off but they'll certainly give you the hard sell and try get you to do a few but that's to be expected! You can use the fact you're a small company to try get a better rate. To find out the costs just email them and ask for a rate card.

You have several types of advertising in newspapers.

Display ads appear alongside the editorial of the newspaper. There will be a premium for an ad on the front page or a special position like top right page because they get the most views. There are specific sizes - full page, half/quarter/eighth/sixteenth pages that will be a certain rate for a one off or you’ll get a discount for a two or more ads appearing in consecutive issues.

Classified ads are small ads that may appear at the back of the newspaper and they will run with all the other classified ads. These will be charged on the size one or two columns x the depth of the ad.

Lineage ads are like the death notices in the daily papers and are charged per word.

As a new company you should be expected to pre pay for your ads before they appear. They won’t guarantee response.

Run a ‘10% discount with this ad’ type promotion to try and get people to call you.

    Good luck!

The advertiser group let you buy classified advertising on line, including ads in that section with some graphics. You can buy one week or many.

Display advertising is bigger and a lot more expensive. You need to call or email for rates for this.
