    Hi

I have a basic computer it has 8 gb ram, however I find its very slow to render in Adobe AE and even gaming.

    Specs:
    CPU and Memory:

    AMD A6 dual core.
    A6 9230.
    8GB RAM

Is it possible to update to a stronger processor and if so does it have to be AMD?

I hope someone can help me out with this

    Thank you!

I can't be 100% positive, but it might be socket AM4.

The reason I can't tell you for sure, is because the CPU is so low-end, I can't even find it on AMD.com

Do you still have a receipt? I'd bring that machine back tbh.

    FM2 I'm pretty sure

What make is the PC, or you can install something like speccy portable which give you all the part details. Eg what socket CPU it is and what motherboard it is.

Should be able verify the best CPU for it then and also which way to go with ram (just in case the motherboard has only 2 dimm slots etc)

And when you see that cost you can decide if you're better off build/buying a new PC altogether.

Yes, it is likely FM2. It is a an extremely low end CPU, not much good for anything other than web browsing and media.

Check your motherboard model. It may support up to an 860/880K quad core, still not very fast compared to an i3 or i5 but a huge upgrade on your current CPU without the hassle of changing motherboard.

Use CPU-Z to double check your motherboard model to confirm CPU support.

Yes it would have to be AMD. Your CPU sits into a specific socket type on your motherboard. If you change the cpu it has to be matching socket type.
As for the 8gb ram that shouldn't really be an issue. I think the CPU may be your issue as it's only a dual core

Also just a word of advice going forward. Don't buy PCs or even PC parts in Ireland. It's incredibly overpriced here. You can pick up decent deals on Amazon UK or Komplett and even with shipping will usually work out cheaper

Sorry OP, but you've bought a lemon.

That machine's only qualities are that it's small & doesn't use a lot of power.
No amount of money pumped into it will make it better for games or Adobe rendering (hell, I'd be surprised if it even CAN be upgraded with standard parts).
